It's pretty much always been the case. I'm fairly sure that when we were actually good and won stuff we had spent a chunk and @Saff will be able to confirm a memory of mine that Sunderland had some rich name when they won the title numerous times in the early 20th century as they'd thrown money around to do it. If we want to strip titles for it I suspect it would cast a shadow over many of the winners for the past 100+ years (not all i accept). ps. just noticed @Big Ern pretty much said this in his post I've quoted. Oh well, I'm sticking to it.
City and Newcastle are todays Liverpool in the 1960’s. Up until then, Liverpool were just an average side with very little history. They were then handed more than the average club to spend and all of a sudden they started to put great sides together and dominate. Newcastle are my rivals and when/if they start to win trophies, I’ll not spend all my time harking on about their blood money being responsible. I’ll have little digs as banter of course but I always concentrate on my own club for better or worse. Most if not all of the top clubs have had more money than anyone else at one point or another, that’s just the way it is. The top clubs don’t like it like they are getting broke up now and not getting their own way all the time anymore.
They are your rivals by geography alone nowadays. So it's definitely an easier pill to swallow. It's like saying don't mention the bloke on steroids...sort out your own training. You can't ever have the level playing field. Funny how no one has an issue with United, one of the richest, free spending clubs in the world...it's because that's not the issue here is it These sports washed clubs are the Ben Johnson's of the 100m race We all know what happened to Ben Johnson and why
That’s the way it’s always been with us and Newcastle. It’s geography that makes us rivals and that’ll never change. They still turn up at our games and sing songs about us. Our rivalry will always remain. The teams at the top have always been spending the most money. Now a couple of clubs have come along with more money and barged in, the usual top 4 or 5 clubs don’t like it. Their little gang has been broken up. See this kind of **** on the streets all the time. This is football, it always has and always will evolve.
I’ll always hate you lot Munse. It matters not one jot to me if you’re winning trophies or are relegated to league 2. My hatred remains the same
Exactly and the Tottenham and pool fans are just suffering from a case of blue balls because they think they own a place nobody does.
That’s all well and good but will you be putting each other in hospital on match day? Will you be accusing each other of fingering your sisters? Will you be smashing each others coaches and pubs up on match day? Will you smash each others city centres up on your visits? It ain’t the same Luvvy. Stop stepping on our toes and concentrate on your own rivals.
