Well, I personally do care what it gets called. Yes we'll always call it St James' and most football fans will too, but to say that you aren't bothered whether it is The Tampax Stadium or The Nike Stadium is obviously bull, come on - seriously the entire world would take the piss out of a sports team playing in The Tampax Stadium.

I doubt it would ever get called that, well i bloody well hope not!

I can see this happening, I used to work for Sports Direct (don't hate me) and there were rumours of Sports Direct employees getting a new Nike uniform because Nike like Mike Ashley. SD have deals with Nike etc for selling Nike football socks and the best store get tickets to football events etc as incentive for the employees.

Wouldn't mind Nike Arena & Nike sponsoring our shirts. Anythings better than Sports Direct Arena & Donnay sponsored kits.

So long as another company does get the naming rights and it doesn't stay as SDA then I'll get over it.

RE. shirts covered in sponsors, at the minute in the Premier League there is a rule saying you can only have 1 sponsor on your shirt, not to say that won't change in the future, it almost certainly will but for now it can't happen.

If we were to get Nike would our shirts be without a main sponsor? Would they have a big Nike logo/slogan? Or (probably more likely) would Mike Ashley use the space to stick a Sports Direct logo there.

If it is Nike they'd probably use the shirt space for a company they own.

Edit - Converse! Blue star please!

I think if Mike is serious about getting extra investment into the club, then he'll look for a proper shirt sponsor rather than sticking Sports Direct on the front.

This is the part where that guy who can't quote properly replies saying: "its more money for fat mikes pocket were a laughing stock with puppets lambias and pardew"

at least on the pitch the club is going through a good period...

Doesn't matter whether we like it or not it's happening and the money will either go into his pocket <doh> or into the club it's pointless going on about it,it won't change a thing.if it does go into his pocket i wouldn't be bothered as I feel as soon as he is repaid the money he has put in he'll **** off which is a win for us.As for those saying tradition and the like (me amongst them) there is no room in modern football for sentiment just look at the fact owners a few months ago wanting to scrap relegation to protect their investment and sky money also the extra game malarkey played in the far east/rich Arab countries so where is the tradition in that.
Another thing to look at is the threat of a European league which has been in the shadows for years now and has scared uefa so much they have radically changed the European cup into the champions league format it is today, done for no other reason than keeping the big boys happy and financially secure. If this Euro league was to come about in say 5 or 6 years time and we were in the position to be invited into the new Euro league would we complain if we did despite it going against tradition.
A famous person once said the times they are a changing and football has been changing for years and the more owners who are actually investors take over teams the more and more commercial it will become just look at sports in the USA to see the road our beloved game is going. In the space of 3 weeks 3 famous grounds have announced they will sell the naming rights I fully expect it to be the norm in 3 to 4 years these people who own teams are not in it for the love of the game and this is what surprises me about people who are shocked when these money making plans are announced don't you get that?

I'd rather it be called something horrible like the Sports Direct Arena cos then there is no chance any fans will call it the XXX. I can see fans calling it the Nike Arena :(
