Thought the move was off ? If it’s going to be one of those off on off on ones May as well stick with off - as he ain’t worth it No one is Either you are coming or you are not Either is fine
Haven’t seen anyone suggest it’s off. By most accounts it’s pretty much all sorted just need to finalise it.
Some club seem not to be happy for Alexis Mac Alister to sign for Liverpool, I would think the player wants to come to Liverpool.
I hope Mac Alister will do a good job for us. However the fact that we are having a clear run despite other clubs with CL next year also looking to fill a similar position indicate that he’s probably not at the very highest tier. Also worrying that most top Brighton sales have fallen below the high expectations of their new clubs. Bissouma Maupay and Cucurella are 3 I can think of who didn’t exactly pull up trees.
I’d counter that by saying 1) Bissouma has gone into a team and picked up injuries but also playing a completely different style to that he was playing at Brighton. 2) Cucurella, was never brilliant defensively but was an attacking threat but again has gone into a team in turmoil. 3) maupay never pulled up any trees at Brighton so not sure why Everton thought he would score goals there. Ben white has done well at arsenal who are playing similar style - albeit in a slightly different role. Trossard done similar. By most accounts Macs been far better than the others have and is much higher rated than them
All 3 of those have moved to clubs in disarray and have chopped and changed mangers. Slightly unfair to judge them on that.
I must admit that even at Brighton I didn’t rate those very highly. White did a reasonable job but I think their regular full back is much better and white got his place because of injury. As for Trossard, he’s not been regular and has been mostly used from the bench as he’s not been good enough to be in their top 11. I like the look of Mitoma. Whoever gets him will have a very good player.
Think Trossard has come in and done a decent job for them. He wasn’t really brought in to be first choice - martinelli is by far a better player but is still young so seems like Trossard was brought in as a rotation option that can play anywhere across the front 3. think Trossard got couple goals and 4/5 assists since he joined which isn’t awful. Mitoma looks decent but his finishing is really erratic. Has missed some big chances in games, especially when 1v1 with keeper. Think he took a lot of people by surprise when got into the team, be interesting after 6 months playing regulalry if teams work him out a bit more next season. Thing with a lot of Brighton team is that I think it just works well as a unit. A bit like us a few seasons ago, we didn’t have a standout midfield but they worked so well worth the rest of the team. Think Mac is a bit like that. Doesn’t score or assist loads. But does the horrible work well, keeps the ball and gets around the pitch. Liken him to Gini in that regard.
Brighton as a team has been the revelation of the season. De Zerbi has created a very good team out of his squad. Its almost like most of their players are playing at their optimum. Unlike Rice at West Ham or Kane at Spurs where they really stand out from their team mates and clearly at the top of their game and would be in any team. Would the likes of Mac Allister, Caicedo or Mitoma be outstanding in a team where the team plays in a different way? You would have thought they wouldn't have the problem of team players giving less than 100% with Klopp at the helm. Mitoma beats his full back and has created many chances for others. His primary job is not really to score but he's probably in line with Darwin in terms of taking his chances...
with respect most of the Brighton team have zero expectations on them. same for West ham who did similar before. mitoma looks a hero in a few games but move thst to demanding fans week in week out and media on their back? he'd be destroyed. bowen is the better player caicedo is being talked about like as if he is gods gift and already worlds best at times. now deliver under the real glare and let's see. same for macallister. Brighton are doing well, getting their decisions spot on and delivering. the next hurdle is huge. they may not be able to sustain it sadly.
Every single club has expectations and players have their own standards they expect to delivery to. Difference with West Ham is David Moyes is their manager. They did well last year more as a fluke and ground out some results but Bowen and Antonio just had brilliant seasons and won them games on their own. Brighton on the other hand play a style of football and stats wise are up there with the best in Europe since de zerbi joined. Now whether they can do it next year with europe added in plus potentially losing 2 influential midfielders is a big ask. But they have a style that creates chances so as long as have someone to put them away (Ferguson looks a real talent) then they should continue to do well. Can’t deny that Mac, Caicedo, Mitoma have been brilliant for them. Whether they can step up to the next level is the thing but Mac won a World Cup so not like he isn’t used to the pressure - whole country is relying on you to win the WC for messi more than them!!
One I’m surprised there’s been no talk about from anyone is Eze. Thought he looked dangerous last year but has really come in this season and looks a proper player. Think only matter of time before he moves on from Palace.
yeah they are good but lets face it mate, they are on 62 points which is great and a couple semi finals. the styles is great, they were the second best side we played domestically after city (better imo than arsenal) but they still only delivered 62 points the issue for me is not the decisions they have made, not the manager and not the players staying. Its the glass ceiling on wages. IMO ferguson will be huge for brighton and nobody will pay for mitoma. the next step is almost impossible for clubs when the vultures are circling constantly.
