Whether it is true or not, for him at his age I'm sure he wants to play regularly, which would not necessarily be the case with us. Much better chance at a league lower and captain at Derby. It will be interesting to see if Andy Smith gets closer to the first team, he did well at GY, I guess a lot depends on what happens with Greaves, as I cannot see him being happy with being back up to Macca and Alfie.
I'd like to see Smith given a chance, but I also wouldn't be be averse to seeing a bit more pace in the back line also. If I could have my cake and eat it kinda scenario.
I don’t think Greaves will be back up, I know he’s not flavour of the week at the minute but I still think he’s our best centre half and should only keep getting better and better. He’ll be in the team on merit I’m sure.
What makes you say that when they've both just got new long term deals and are both highly rated by the manager?
You may but what makes you think Rosenior agrees with you? Of course you need more than 2 but that doesn't mean Greaves is an automatic starter either. Your comment just seemed quite absolute for something we saw little evidence of last season.
Greaves has a higher ceiling than both McLoughlin and Alfie Jones but in terms of where they are right now, all three are about equal. I don’t buy the idea that Macca is ‘much better’ than Greaves. I think that’s just the same ‘flavour of the month’ bias that City fans show all the time i.e. McLoughlin is the best thing since Maldini and Greaves is now suddenly ****e. All three are very solid centre-halves for a team which has aspirations for top 6. We’re blessed that we have three very good centre-halves contracted to 2026 and we shouldn’t be talking down any of them.
If we can sell Greaves for an inflated transfer fee, then we should do exactly that in order to strengthen the team
I don't believe Jones or McLoughlin are significantly better than Greaves, I merely think that Rosenior thinks they're his two preferred CBs as things stand, which is why I disagreed with the notion Greaves was a walk up start next season.
I don't disagree that at present all are about a similar level, I guess it will be down to Liam's man management to keep players happy that are not playing every week.
I always thought Greaves actually looked good at left back when Christie was on the other side, we seemed to become a back 3 in possession and Christie would go very very high. Coyle doesn’t offer that in comparison and hence we looked much more rigid with him in the side
I would not say overrated. His progress before last season was not notch. Unfortunately last season his form did plateau a little. He is still doing well for a young larker. Vern.
Jack Colback being released by Forest, would be a good addition to the midfield in the sort of role we need
Didn't realise he is 34 this year, how the years fly by, was decent, not sure how much his legs have in the tank now given how he plays.
