100% agree. I'll say it again: WE SACKED HIM IN THE BOTTOM DIVISION.

I can't think of a single club in history who sacked a manager for not being good enough and then reappointed him when 2 divisions higher. Think about it people - it is ludicrous.

Erm - Deano played for City twice. Yes?

OK - not sacked, but good enough to return.
 
You couldn't be wider of the mark if you tried. We didn't choose Deano as not being good enough, we sold him to a better team.
 
I don't get the obsession with experience at all. Does managing for a number of years suddenly mean you have better teams? It's still 11v11 regardless of the manager. All he can do is put his principles across to the team, NP had good footballing principles and it worked, we just need someone with similar ones. A lot of these experienced managers are stubborn as **** and if given the job would insist on forcing their tactics on a successful team with no need for change.

I take it Jon Walters isn't good enough for us now then either?
 
he was sacked by a different regime in different circumstances,a decision highly debated at the time, and he has since gained 10 years further experience , many of those working at one of the biggest clubs in the world..
im not saying hes definately the right choice, but i dont think its as cut and dry as he wasnt good enough then, why is he now.

Joyce wasn't replaced based on results, it was based on that he wasn't very experienced. He did a great job whilst he was manager here, and kept us up even though our off-field situation was dire.

Your theory that one can't improve his abilities over a 10 year period either applies to both of them or neither, I'd suggest it's neither.

I'm interested to know how we were wrong on both counts when post both we went on to the most successful period in our club's history. Your username is rather poetic.
 
It was criminal to have sacked Joyce at the time. The management just assumed he would be out of his depth and wanted a bigger name to "move on" in the next season. Typical crap knee jerk reaction by a regime that had no idea how to run a football club. A bit like the knob-heads at Lesta now.

Joyce was a down to earth football man then, who knew how to energise a squad of ordinary journeymen players who were exhausted by the struggle to win games. He was a tigerish player who always put in a full 90 minutes plus, and he brought that energy to managing them. It payed off big style and saved this club. By all accounts he still has that attitude and it will serve this club well again.

.......plus he had John McGovern with him, a man with management and playing experience.
 
just been reading that apparentley humberside are reporting joyce is to be named manager on monday with barmby his assistant
 
Hows about this for a crazy idea. If Joyce does come, why not give him our full support and then judge him from how he performs on his reappointment. People are entitled to question his appointment or say they'd rather have someone else. But to slag off about it really isn't what's needed.

It'll never change mate, the manager will get slagged every time we lose or don't play free-flowing football, I think Pearson would have gotten away with it but for the fact that he didnt play the game when it came to interviews, if he'd been a performing seal then half of the Blunderside texters would have thought he was gods gift

If he came, of course he'd be given full support.

Doesn't mean it's the right appointment though.
