Pleased to see that this matter it finally reaching it's culmination - I believe that the initial arrests were made in December 2007, so this has been a long time coming albeit tax avoidance cases like this are extremely difficult to deal with. If I am correct, I think it is these kinds of cases where jurys are not necessairly used. I am sure that there is someone on this board who will be able to clarify this matter.
I must admit that I think Redknapp has had this coming for a long while. Regardless of his genuine success at Portsmouth where he introduced the highest quality of football played at that club since the 1950's and his dire period in charge of the Saints, in these instances I feel that tribal prejudices need to be put aside. Hopefully the footballers, press and fans calling for Redknapp to be appointed Capello's successor will find that this option is now untenable. There has been plenty in the press of the last 9 months regarding corruption in FIFA and the culture of bribery which has grown under Sepp Blater. I would suggest that it would be extremely difficult for the FA to make criticism of the financial mismangement of football's governing body whilst having Redknapp, who is under inbvestigation for tax evasion, as the national coach. Just desserts in my opinion.

Lester Piggott...Ken Dodd...This is a high profile case where justice has got to be seen to have been done if found guilty. Not sure if there are conspiracy charges added, which could increase any sentencing, as Piggott/Dodd stood alone..

Picking up with the comment from the "Fan with no name", I don't think there is any sort of conspiracy theory at all . This has been long over due (about 4 years since the charges against Redknapp were first made and probably at least a further six month on from that when he was collared by the rather ineffectual "Panorama" documentary.) If anything, Redknapp has been fortunate that it has taken this long to be able to bring him to court.
The truth would always have come out eventually. I can't see him avoiding attention for tax avoidance or the alleged kick backs from transfer fees with so much of football finance under the spotlight. There has always been corruption in the game (I think the first "football scandal" involved Preston North End in the 1880's) but it is clear that it is being tolerated less and less. Given the prestige that comes with international football and the sordid revelations that beset FIFA earlier this year, Redknapp cannot be a serious option even if he is proved innocent. Personally, I think that he is probably not as highly rates outside London as he is in the capital where the red-top media seem to be in thrall of his ability to resurrect Spurs. The interesting thing will be the reaction of the Tottenham board should Redknapp be unable to demonstrate his innocence. In the light of the investigations that were already on going when he was appointed, you would have to question the wisdom of the board at White Hart Lane.
