I don't really understand this Connolly and lack of robustness thing. Players being robust doesn't mean they'll never get injured, injuries happen. Connolly played 18 times for Boro last season after signing in Jan so he's clearly not made of glass.

Who said he was? We've just been bemoaning the club signing injured or unfit players, and Connolly hasn't played a game in months, so why take that risk? He'd also cost a fee, whereas Joao is a FAT so hopefully would come a bit cheaper. He may well go overseas anyway, but he seems the calibre of player we should be looking at.

You're still persisting with this notion that being on a free makes you cheap. Connolly could be significantly cheaper and less risk as we could loan him. There are attitude issues over Joao too. Even if we did sign Connolly permanently, I can't imagine there would be much of a fee either and you'd probably end up paying Joao higher wages as he'll have plenty of takers so he'd end up being more expensive anyway.

From my memory the only injured player we signed last year was Salah. Connolly got really unlucky with his injury but I wouldn't pass on him just because he got injured.

What notion would that be? I've never claimed it before as an absolute, that was Mr Orange. I said he would "hopefully" come cheaper than buying a player from a PL club. Maybe he wouldn't. If we can loan Connolly again then of course that's cheaper, is that guaranteed though or are you guessing too?

Joao would have more takers because he's a much better player, which was all I started off by saying.

Traore was injured before he came to us (he missed the last chunk of the season at his prior club) and re-injured in his first session with us. Ebiowei was injured when we signed him. Salah, as you say, was injured when we signed him. It wasn't just a single player that we did it with.

The lad who played on loan for PNE from Everton would be a good signing too...

Yeah great shout, mentioned him on a podcast a few weeks ago when someone asked who we should get to replace Oscar up top. Don't think Cannon should be replacing him but rather supplementing him, he looks very promising.

I think we should be looking at either him or Simms, think we’d have a better chance of Simms on a permanent.

What the notion that free transfers on big wages put you just as close to FFP as paid transfers?

Oh,. Sorry FFP not an issue I seem to recall.

You disingenuous ****ing snake.

Bielik and Whiteman are arguably the two best #6s in the division. Both are a good age, physical midfielders and are exceptional at reading the game. Bielik would probably be a cheaper transfer fee but has a horrible injury record and isn’t the most mobile. Whiteman probably suites our style of play more as he’s more mobile and can receive the ball in tight areas under pressure but Preston would probably want at least £3 million for him. However, if we’re serious about promotion, we can’t cheap out on a quality defensive mid. It’s the most important area we need to get right this summer.

Sell Sinik back to Turkey, free up the wages from Pelkas, surely we could make it work.

Whiteman would be a signing I'd like to see.

He's quality in my opinion and really underrated and flies under the radar as far as Championship players go. A real leader on the pitch as well. Would probably be the closest thing we've had to Ashbee since Ashbee, but better on the ball.

Just had a quick look on PNE's forum as it's as active as ours and most seem to have accepted Whiteman will leave this summer as he has a year left on his deal and Preston aren't willing to offer him the wages he wants to sign a new deal. If I was Rosenior, it would be my primary transfer target this summer.
