Exactly newcastle are burned out due to lack of depth no rotation in the back 4 and playing a high press every week
Burned out assessment based on a single game against Leeds? Can't be the Arsenal game - we started that like a steam train and lost due to Arsenal having a bit more quality and some of our players letting it get in their heads when the early penalty appeal was turned down. I'd say the question today, if there is one, is more about mentality. How are they going to cope with the increasing pressure? We'll soon find out.
With the defence and midfield pretty much set in stone now, the only question appears to be what the attack will be. Gordon - Wilson - Isak.....may work. Murphy seems a bit of a doubt, ASM is a loose cannon and Joey has to be in midfield with Longstaff out.
I don't think we are burnt out and we have the right mentality. We do however have a problem with Longy being out and Bruno despite what Eddie says is not quite at full tilt although still starts for me of course. We've lost some balance though because of Longstaff being out. He's showing that he really is a critical cog. We can of course easily beat Brighton tonight but at this stage of the season pretty much everyone has something to play for. Every game is hard and Brighton are for sure one of the best teams in the league so we are going to have to be right at it.
We do at least have home advantage, plus they played more recently than us so we have more rest, and in addition we're at home and it's a ****er of a trip for them. That said, them, along with Villa are the only teams that have outplayed us this season, and we were lucky to get a point a their place. Just hoping they're knackered tonight.
Hmmm, I'm starting to feel a bit more confident about this game now. Potentially no March, Sanchez and Enciso
Brighton are a weird one, they never seem to miss players - ie this season they lost Cucarella, Trossard, Bissouma and Maupay, and they look better than ever.
Despite the preaching of the noisy, negative choir, of course we have a chance. We could have done to Arsenal what Brighton did if the early chances had gone in rather than hitting the post etc. Leeds performance looks more of an aberration than anything. Today could go either way.
We should have won both games tbh - Arsenal just caught us with 2 chances on the break when we were otherwise dominating, and while we weren't that great against Leeds, we had more than enough chances to finish the game off.
Plus their equaliser was just "one of those". Clipped off Trippier's head and Pope no chance. Hopefully we get a bit of the rub of the green tonight.
So only 30 mins but for night games it's a **** on trying to rush back to station to catch last train so we just stay up for night games now.
