Good mate of mine is a Mackem, I was congratulating him on their play off place yesterday and we got to talking about Wycombe/Ainsworth - they played each other numerous times in League One, including the play off final which Sunderland won. My mate reckons Wycombe were the most horrible team they played against in terms of both style and attitude - time wasting, niggling etc - for years, and there was special joy in beating them at Wembley. In his words ‘even worse than us when we had Alex Neil as manager’. I haven’t listened to what Dobson has to say but I’ll judge based on what I see. My mate would like to go to Wembley again, but knows promotion would end in humiliation for them. But they’ve had great fun under Mowbray since Neil left, playing kids and trying to play proper football even when they lose. Good luck to them.
It really does seem that we're in for a torrid time with Ainsworth. Yet again, our club is eating itself.
Really doesn’t sound good Sb. All this chatter about ‘we do our due diligence’ clearly went out of the window when shear panic set in after the failure of choosing ‘the snake’ and Critchley. Nice to know our senior team are always calm and level-headed.
What’s the strategy now? It looks like it was thrown out the window with Ainsworth’s appointment being a short term act of desperation.
Maybe it’s running around head office with your hands in the air screaming ‘Don’t panic Captain Mainwaring’ morning and afternoon.
Apparently his huge football knowledge and experience has landed Mark W-P a job on Match of the Day on a Saturday night with his Dad! WTF!
Exactly this. It's one of the most baffling things in a season full of them. I'd really like to hear GA asked a few direct questions about him. Why was he always on the bench when he looked half decent on the odd occasion he got thrown on in desperation? Is he managing a long term injury problem? Or is it mental issues? I know his mate tragically died and I've got every sympathy with him on that and understand that it might have really knocked him sideways. But he was never picked as a starter even before that. We had an obligation to buy him, regardless of appearances, so someone at the club must have rated him really highly. So why was he never in the starting line up? And what to do with him now?
They should do a fans Q and A session - so many questions about where we’re heading and what’s going on. So far very little information apart from us looking like we’re limping into a season that will see us relegated.
All these questions of our Board and management (Nobility) could be overstating our position as fans (peasants). Accept their decisions and keep buying your tickets and merchandise (taxes on the peasants and workers) as you should. Or line up with/behind Staines for the uprising whenever it happens.
I'm still glass half full. Remit was to keep us up regardless of attempting to play anything that resembled football or not. They spent zero money at Wycombe so clear played to the strengths of the players there. I hope we see a change in style next season based on having a few players that can actually play footy, however if Martin signs another contract my glass will quickly become very empty in more ways than one!
Gillingham FC @TheGillsFC · 11 maj ️ | #Gills have completed the signing of centre-back, Connor Masterson , on a permanent contract. ✍️ The 24-year-old will officially become a Gillingham player on July 1.
What was the actual point of us buying him ? Never given a proper go in our 1st team, another dire bit of recruitment no matter how you dress it up. We are left with 1 match a month Clarke Salter if we're lucky ! Les' legacy really is awful
You have to ask wtf do the board do? Everything Les does f*cks us over yet he's untouchable. 8 years and we have the worst team in the 57 years I've been watching them, what an achievement!...
I hate agreeing with a post like this because it’s such an awful thing to like about the club you follow so ardently for so long. But the tenure over the last several years has been a steady decline. I thought the sale of Eze was actually a positive, it showed we were moving in the right direction to manage our finances and capabilities. But it was just a strike of luck and hid the terrible performance of our board and football directorial roles. It just hid the truth that was going on.
Was wondering what he'd say. Pretty generic. Let's wait to see what actions are taken before we judge too harshly.
