I was under the impression the buy clause was triggered by both conditions, not either/or.
From a purely football standpoint, Romano's tweet is from last year. Things have changed since then and while I'd still be inclined to make it permanent, I would also understand it if we didn't. He's been really poor all season, a shadow of the player he was when he first joined. Our system hasn't helped one iota but I do think his game is a bit too one-dimensional in that it relies on cutting inside to shoot or cross with his stronger foot, and opposition teams who were initially taken by surprise have very quickly worked out how to deal with his threat.
He's still young and with good coaching will learn how to evolve his game, but here again: whoever the new manager is, they may look at his performance levels this season and decide that they'd rather not gamble £30m on him.
I’ve heard he’s been carrying an injury all season. Hopefully he just needs a proper rest over the summer and he’ll be right. If he can get back to even close to the form he showed when he joined then it’s hard to find better value for 30m in todays market.
