i've been saying we should sign barnes for ahwile

he's exactly the player we need, and he's absolutely suited for the rough and tumble for the championship

the best FAT we could get

We need goals though. Not rough and tumble. He’d be a good addition but he’s not going to fire us to promotion without more goals added elsewhere.

Don't know how trustworthy this is.

Joe Ward and Ashley Barnes, whose contracts expire at the end of the season, are already signed up for Hull City!

Surely need better than Joe Ward. Barnes could be alright, but you want goalscorers around him and Joe Ward isn’t that

He's a midfielder with 6 goals and 10 assists. Not too shabby but can he do it a division higher?

I doubt Joe Ward would be coming in as a first choice. Would be a great option off the bench, quick, traditional wide player.

Posh fans say he can’t cross though for toffee though and his stats this season flatter him. Though saying that, Watford fans said Tufan was ****e.

I’ll be honest, I wouldn’t want Barnes. If we can’t get Connolly, I’d want a player with similar attributes. A pacy forward who likes to play off the shoulder and is different from Óscar and Tetteh, since one’s a poacher and the other’s a big forward who can hold the ball up well and is good with his feet but neither are particularly quick. Barnes isn’t quick either. Barnes also only has 6 goals in 39 league games so he wouldn’t exactly add loads of goals either. In fact, his career best was 18 at Brighton in League 1. Both Wilks and Magennis matched or did better than that in League 1.

Ward has had 10 assists on top of those 6 goals. 16 goal involvements in 39 is better than any of our current midfielders. Better than 1 in every 2.5 games. Also plays anywhere on the right so is not a direct comparison with Connolly.

Barnes is an interesting one. Physical presence which may help others in scoring a few but I agree with the poster who said you'd need more of a goalscorer playing off him. Maybe that's the plan?

It would appear strange to me if we considered Barnes a similar type of striker to Connolly. It doesn't strike me as an either/or kind of decision. If we were in for a Connolly type, then we probably still are regardless of interest in signing a Barnes type as their qualities are so different.

Allahyar played very similarly to how Connolly did up front, really think that’s where his long term future is. It’s where he’s played his best football for us.
