I agree with you that system being broken because of short term “ oh it’ll be ok attitude “ to dropping standards even slightly. I used to drum it into the lads I was in charge of , that no matter how tempting to make do “ just this once” , I would not allow it because it’s inevitable that 5% drop this week soon becomes 10% most weeks until it’s a permanent large drop which can’t be reversed

A somewhat unsavoury story about a HSBC employee seconded into the shadow business dept. This person has access to parliament too. Not a great look at all for the labour party when you consider HSBC made a £4.3bn profit last quarter, a record, and they are the windfall tax party. They are beginning to look like a party who know they are heading for power and are beginning to forget their own promises about cleaning up politics to me at least.

Imagine that! Aye, I'll personally never vote again. The illusion of choice couldn't be more evident if it smacked you on the arse. They'll swap sides at the drop of a hat. It's an industry like any other. Covid was the last straw for me. It's as if there was no other viable opinion other than what was on BBC. **** all that jazz. I'd take my chances on an A.I overlord over this ridiculous nonsense. At least they'd be undeniability logical.

The illusion of choice is a good way to put it. A choice between 2 parties, so obviously similar, is not a great choice to have. They seem to copy each other and race to the bottom. Hoping the Liberals make a comeback over the next 2 elections. At least they are offering something different. Although they have hardly made me feel positive.

I spoke to a die hard labour man last week. A really good friend of mine. He said they simply cannot be as bad as the tories. Something I hear a lot. I am not so sure to be honest. We seem to forget the horror show of Blair in his latter years, and his war, and the fallout from that. I read, in the guardian of all places, that Labour are courting business and the fear is they are going to push hard on private finance again, despite the lessons they should have learned. Not so sure about that, but Brown and Blair are in the advisory seat so dont be surprised. All that said the last thing we need is another tory term, just not so sure Labour will be bring any light to the end of the tunnel. Miserable state of affairs really.

This, basically inevitable, labour party government will be a disgrace, i've absolutely no doubt's about it. Starmer was born on the centre spike, he's benefitted more than most Tories with regards his own personal privileged upbringing, which is fair enough, but, make no mistake, he's bent as ****. I dont hold it against him. He's operating in the system as it is. Fair enough, for me. It's all bollocks though.

Shell made 7 billion profit in the last 3 months and blamed it on the war, we paid it to them...no one cares. As long as the pension is going into the current account, it's all gravy.

Aye. It is the current political system that is knackered. Not so much political parties. Ask yourself one question, why do highly successful people, who dont need a c£100k yearly salary when they can get much more elsewhere, do this...

There are some good people in the labour party, and a few in the tories. They seem to me to be silenced by their party leadership machines. Point in case, the silencing of Labour critics of the lies Starmer spouted about Sunak recently. Only those with no long term aspirations still criticising it. Both sides are the same, absolute hypocritical nonsense. Hard to find an answer, but swapping tory for labour and back again has proven over the ladt 50 years to be anything but effective.

Like clockwork. Dad is a toolmaker blah blah. He blathers on about that, as if it is relevant to his education.

Went to a selective school, according to the article you posted. Became fee paying during his time but he got it free. He had his 6th form education paid for and came out of Oxford. I wait with interest for his education background to be held against him. It isnt relevant to anybody of course, apart from those who cant see beyond the silliness. I fear for Starmer to be honest, his entire persona is one that will be hammered by the media and everyone who has hated tory privilege.

Schools that aren't very exclusive in the first place don't become fee paying schools. Otherwise they'd all do it.

He's not exactly been shovelled at Southmoor, has he?
 
In other news, The Spectator put a prize reward into the tenth minute of a recent Kier Starker speech video on their site giving a free bottle of champagne to the first person to spot the offer and claim the prize.

If remains unclaimed....

This is part of the problem Labour have to solve imho.

How many people do you think routinely listen to 10 minute speeches by any politician?

Then factor in that the Spectator is largely conservative, is visited on average for a total of less than 2 and a half minutes per visit and that the number of viewers their website has is marginally above the Hull DailyMail.

I'm not sure that's the burn that the Spectator think it is.
