Another good announcement today from Labour, this time on tuition fees. At least in my opinion anyway. Abolitioning them wouldnt be right in my opinion. Shame the media are full of language like 'u-turn' and 'abandoning pledges'. Seems to me like common sense to say I have changed my opinion when the evidence is there to support that change.
Well, if you're going to build your campaign on screaming U-Turn and abandoning pledges, then it should be no surprise to have exactly the same played back at you when you do similar.

I agree. There's no middle ground with this. It's either evil or U-Turn, no 'well we had a rethink, new information came to light, we got some good feedback and we've changed our position' allowed any more. It's all about scoring the easy point now and not the potential to have it played against you later.

It was boring reading every day about a tory u-turn, it is boring now reading about Labour u-turns. I just wish somebody would have the sense to admit Brexit has shown to be an umitigated disaster for most and we should u-turn on that.

I agree mate. I dont doubt the war in Ukraine is a key contributor, but I dont think the govt have done enough to clamp down on basic profiteering. The Lib Dems today have called for an investigation into food companies and supermarkets profiteering. It is pretty scandalous the prices being charged, particularly the increases in so called own brand ranges. I have this afternoon been told my local leisure centre is at serious risk of closing. Energy bills are the problem. Increased by over £250k in 2 years. It is a small community thing, run as a charity. I run my community coaching out of it, plus other community clubs I am on the board for. If it goes there is nowhere else nearby I can access. The real impact on peoples lives is terrible.

Cross party report from the lords say those under the age of 30 have been very badly affected. So much more difficult to have the sort of freedom I enjoyed as kids. Sunak and Macron have committed to id card improvements, but lets see. Research funding massively down. Young people impacted again. Erasmus programme. Young people again. School trips into this country from EU down 80%. Young people again. 75% of voters aged between 18 and 24 voted remain. Those with the most to win or lose. 56% of people now think it was a mistake according to recent polls. Today a major tech company decided to use New York stock exchange, not London. A company born in the UK in 1990 and which has led the way across the world. The blame has been partly put down to the 'lunacy of brexit' according to the company founder. The list goes on and on. I think it is, and will continue to be, an economic and social balls up for the UK, personally.
I don't agree on Brexit but I absolutely agree on the tit for tat stuff. A large part of Cameron's appeal was that at least he gave the appearance of being more of an adult on these things.
On news , food inflation of 15.7% keeping inflation at 10, eith other goods down at 5. Spokesman for food retail blamed everything, transport costs etc and said those costs will “ eventually” reduce. But we all know it won’t be passed on. Funny that non food products have transport costs etc also . Proof of the pudding that those who provide the things we can’t live without screw us because we don’t have the choice of cutting down or doing without that we do with the other goods
The reality of Brexit is embarrassingly clear. It's believed, by those who wanted it, to be the .means to take any control away from foreigners, seal our borders to foreigners, get rid of unwanted foreigners ... ... at which point we have to go out to attempt to sign trade deals with foreigners, compete with foreigners and rely on foreigners to help seal our borders. It's absolutely ridiculous and only appeals to people who long for the days of Empire, proper British passports and the return to pounds, shillings and pence. The Chinese and Indians will eat us alive.
Blaming Brexit voters for not wanting foreigners could easily be turned around to remain voters don’t want a fair immigration system because they prefer white Europeans to have preferential treatment to those with dark skin from beyond Europe.
