Stockton is only 40 miles away from Newcastle. So the distance isn’t epic but the effort to go is. We’ve had two 9-0, but I’ve never seen one live. Today is the last chance I have to see Saints lose 9-0 in the PL. I can finally say ‘I was there’. As I’m going on the bus, leaving early won’t be an option. The bus will still be full of Magpies.

So when we win today, you can show the other bus passengers your red and white striped shirt, and everyone will think you're a Mackem

THAT IS NOT HELPING! When I go to Sunderland matches, as like next season, I get asked where I got the odd Sunderland shirt from. When I say it’s a Saints shirt, laughter ensues. I went to Madeira on holiday with my Sunderland mate, he always wore his footy shirt. The waiters all smiled at him. When he said I supported Saints, guess what, more laughter. Bar Stewards.

Well, it might seem a bit weird but very reluctantly I've accepted we're already relegated in all but name, for this last season anyway, but, it seems there's a short season of five games coming up and we win promotion to the PL. OK pretty naff but need to keep some sanity!!!

I walked the dog this morning along the Vliet part of the Rhine-Schie canal blissfully unaware of today's game until I got home and opened my email. Bit of auto detachment I suppose.
