Turkey seem to have a weird pre season. It’s the same time as ours, but some teams play six or seven pre season games against much tougher opposition (Dortmund, Kharkiv) while others play just two or three. They then have a mid season winter break and play another two or three friendlies. I’d guess that the heat might be a factor in their pre season, but outside that, they seem to play a lot of games against high level opponents which, after a long break, probably isn’t the best idea in hot weather.

Traore played for Hatayspor, who had a normal pre season, I wouldn’t think his injury was anything other than bad luck on our part.

Hull City’s out of contract players will be given a definitive verdict on their future at the club in the next few days, with every member of the playing squad scheduled for meetings with manager Liam Rosenior and his coaching staff.

While some provisional conversations have been had with those players whose current deals expire in the summer, Rosenior will finally sit down next week to discuss in detail with each member of his squad where he sees them fitting into his plans for next season.

A prolonged nine day gap between hosting Swansea City this weekend and the final match of the campaign on Monday May 8, has given City an ideal opportunity to hold their internal meetings as the plans for next season are significantly accelerated. Club captain Lewie Coyle, Alfie Jones and Callum Elder are among the most high-profile players out of contract this summer, while a number of fringe players will be waiting to hear of their future.

Asked when the contract talks will begin, Rosenior said: “That will happen next week before the last game. We will sit down and we have scheduled meetings with every player, not just the out of contract players but every player in the squad needs to know where they stand, how they can improve and whether they have done really well.

“It’s important when they go away they know the standards that will be expected of them when they come back in terms of their fitness and their nutrition, and in terms of their performance for next season.”

Rosenior is keen to use next week’s meetings to further push home what he expects of his squad over the summer and when they return for pre-season training. The ambitious City boss is eager to make significant strides next season and is hopeful the foundations built in recent months can enable his players to hit the ground running in pre-season.

The City boss says he’s well prepared for some of the conversations which will happen next week, having taken his time along with the staff at the club to plan out the direction he wishes to take.

He added; “When we talk about contracts, about picking the team, everything we do here is collaborative and I love that. Everything we do. I want it that way.

“I want my coaching staff to feel free and safe to give me their opinion because I don’t have all the answers. I’m fortunate that Accun and Tan above me, who are passionate about this club, or the staff in the coaching office we all want the same thing. I listen to all those opinions, take them into account and then make the decision.”

Really like the sound of all that. I always managed in that way and found it paid off. Hope it does for him too.

But next season we can afford to ease any new foreign signings into it. We've got the spine in place and if we start next season with those that are currently at the club we'll be absolutely fine. We should have Tetteh, Oscar and Connolly (if he stays) back by then as well.

How much did we shell out for the likes of Ian Ashbee, or Andy Dawson?

Maybe it would be better to search for a couple of talented scouts.

Yates would be a great signing but I'd imagine most of the Championship will want him and if any of the clubs with Parachute Payments get involved, we can't compete.

I've been having a think and there aren't many domestic forwards who we could get without a scrap and a half

"In recruitment, with players who are interested or not interested in coming, at least they know what the team looks like and how we play and what our principles are.

"There's been a real reasoning about how I have gone about things this year and hopefully it will stand us in good stead for next year.

“I am not saying we are guaranteed to get promoted next season, what I am saying is this six months has given me a time to assess this club, not just the players but the process and strategy behind how we work. Hopefully that bedding in time will see real benefits next season.”

Nice confident politicofootball speak from Rosie there, but as of right now, that is all it is...talk. Based on our current core squad and the apparently limited monies being made available to strengthen during this transfer window, is there really a basis for optimism about prmotion next year? The gungho mediastyle, the-sky-is-blue, new dawn, Acun our savvy saviour days have now sailed and the reality is that we are currenty a de facto mid-table Championship club. What is going to make us a top end challenger next year rather than ending up just like where we currently are...or even worse!!
