MITO - I hope you’re now on the Caicedo train. He was excellent again yesterday. His passing is very underrated. He’s far more than just a ball winner

Nice to see you guys agreeing on something.he was meh on passing and he's too expensive. that's a terrible decision he made on contract.

Perhaps we should just hire the Brighton scouting and player acquisition team![]()
Brighton's owner has his own sports analytic company that employs 100 sports analysts who collect unique data from all the football leagues in Europe. It's no surprise that they repeatedly unearth gems. They've got a huge advantage in that area.Perhaps we should just hire the Brighton scouting and player acquisition team![]()
a lot of their gems have come from further afield .Brighton's owner has his own sports analytic company that employs 100 sports analysts who collect unique data from all the football leagues in Europe. It's no surprise that they repeatedly unearth gems. They've got a huge advantage in that area.
My previous comment came from a report in 2016. I've just found one from 2021 which says that they now employ almost 200 analysts globally. The original premise still stands.a lot of their gems have come from further afield .

They absolutely have an advantage in finding players. It's self evident. It's not just a database we're talking about, they send analysts to preseason games, training camps and games around the world. Their data collection is like no other, even down to the crowd response to when a particular player is on the ball. There's a lot of stuff out there about how an army of maths prodigies helped Brighton conquer the transfer market. It's fascinating and nothing like when the founder of EA sports (an Everton fan) gave Everton access to all the data. It's far more sophisticated.I don't think they really have.
they are of a size and wage structure that allows them to take the risks other clubs won't (yet)
Pick up 10 caicedo's at 15k a week and flips them on quickly. unearth 1 out of 10 and you are a hero.
All the clubs have massive databases or players its about the approach to what you are willing to do with the cash
Lets just take a look at thier activity
Estupinan - do we think he's much good? 17mil
Enciso - 11 games 2 goals as striker. another young player punted on. 10mil
Gilour - we all know him right.
Adringa - another 7mil. just bought in in january 21 years old left winger
Buonanotte - another 18 year old an attacking cm type bought in january another 5 mil
Ayari - 19 year old cm. 3mil or so.
What do you see? A strong pattern of strategy to buy them really young, move in before they get value and see what happens, they then laon them out right away to ensure they kick a ball in anger.
I think adringa was already loaned
Last season then?
Mwepu bought for 20mil had that heart condition. pretty much a disaster for them.
Cucurella bought for 15mil and sold on for 60odd million.
sima - a 21 year old right winger singed for 6 mil and immediately loaned to stoke
mitoma bought for 2 mil
Kozlowksi bought for 10mi land immediately loaned out. another 19 year odl
this goes on and on and on.
Not everyone makes the brighton squad but we will find they made a profit almost every year on transfers for the past 3 years
theres inherent risk in buying and loaning strategy. If brighton can keep selling a player and having 5 replacements off them then its all good.
sanchez for example was signed in 2013, quite a long time ago and developed with 2 loans. its a pretty much classic brighton story there.
Manchester United begin Harty Kane talks.

You love telling me how I get my opinions and basically how gullible I must be, based on the fact that you don't happen to agree.I think you are very much overestimating their data and underestimating others. don't believe all you read eulogising teams.
the phrase "conquer the transfer market" suggests you've heavily bought into a nice story.
the reality is they are not doing very much different to what a lot of clubs do.
for example ajax. If you stack them high enough and get them games you will probably generate a bit of value as well as a lot of faliures.
Its impossible to compare apples with apples here as LFC simply cannot take those risks within the glare of immediate demands for success. Brighton are in effect gambling on potential a bit earlier than others are willing to and sometimes it pays off and others it won't
As i highlighted they are loaning a lot of guys to a few particular clubs which helps them get the games in adult football needed to bring players of 18,19 and 20 along.
Contrast this to LFC:
nunez - zero risk mentality. tracked for years ebfore, breaks out in portugal, still tracked and then moved on
Gakpo- same story - moved for value, paid double what brighotn would and paid a fiar higher wage so wait until he's have a good international showing and experieince
Diaz- wait til spurs are sniffing having watching closly for 3 years befroe
Carvalho - again, everyone knows him. move for value. (see gilmour)
Ramsay- as above
Bajcetic - move for 250k
Lets not ignore the academy types we move in on like doak, clarke etc.
the profile is different. we are only willing to risk a few small amount of cash on young players and we only seem to loan them when we think they are ready for it rather than Brighton who are loaning out cos some guys have zero hope of getting a work permit.
I want to be clear, I am not really "knocking" brighton here. I am just stating i don't think thier approach is new or unique or amazing. Its based on purely getting in first and low which is acheiving a cost benefit at a higher risk than others allow.
We've all heard the likes of leicester being fawned over for mahrez and kante, people rarely point out the other 20 players that don't work out.
Brighton's approach will do better longer term than most as long as they are consistent with it and don't supplant the data with subjective opinions

You love telling me how I get my opinions and basically how gullible I must be, based on the fact that you don't happen to agree.
Brighton's owner has made his fortune from gambling. He's a maths graduate and uses his love of both maths and gambling to come up with a unique way of scouting which no other club is doing. The man is proud of his achievements and how he's done it. Look at how he uses his analytics company to pick players and look at how those players have performed for him. It's self evident that his method is working. Will it work 100% all the time? No. No gambler is 100% successful with every gamble. But when looking at how and why Brighton have risen up a division and kept on improving and then finding the owner waxing lyrical about how he's done it, why should we question it?
Do you ever praise anything?![]()
Yet we only conceded from set pieces ourselves, so not only have we won 2 games (including an away fixture where before w hadn’t scored all season to bottom half team) we’ve also got 6 points and been more solid only giving away chances at set pieces.
This is a bit like when you were telling me that city's success hasn't been because of financial doping.cos it's self publicity
I am just saying don't believe every word of it, that's all.
just because other clubs don't reveal all doesn't mean there's not an awful lot of looking and studying going on.
Brighton have done well but in the end their hit rate is not much different to other examples.
their strategy of when to buy, the type of player being bought and where they are usually going on loan is also possible to look at from results and imo they are outsourcing the development which is interesting
