I’ve been out with my partners family for the day and managed to resist the urge to check the scores until we got back…glad I did. What on earth happened?! The red card obviously provides a bit of mitigation, but we were 2-0 down before that. The home form this season has been incredibly bad
Plenty of "We want Webber Out" chants from the Stands, a fair few fans had started to leave by the 80th minute. The club needs a massive refreshing in the summer, no effort in the 2nd half . Why no subs in the 2nd half? Where were players such as Tzolis, Rowe , Pukki, Kamara, who were all left on the bench
Webber is far from the problem at the club, some people need to recognise the massive strides forward made by the club since he has been here - particularly behind the scenes. The grass ain’t always greener…I remember 2 years ago when most of us were worried that he wouldn’t be at the club much longer
We keep starting the season with 3 Centre backs & end up playing people out of position when inevitably 2 get suspenjured. We still haven't tried to replace Skipp & now Pukki is leaving we don't have a star striker. Having said that I'm pretty sure that if Handley, Gibson , McLean & Dowell were available they would have beaten Rotherham QPR & competed against Middlesbrough & Swansea. Hayden didn't really stay fit long enough to judge either, It's not all doom & gloom Watford came down with us & struggled too. Swansea looked good today but they are below us on goal difference, we came up just short but that's clearly down to injuries to key players .
I completely disagree with you on this one. Who poisoned the relationship between the fans and the club? Webber. Who froze out the local media with his petty vendettas? Webber. Who sold Emi when we went up to the PL? Webber. Who used that money to buy and loan a load of dross? Webber. Who sacked Farke? Webber. Who appointed Smith? Webber. Who abandoned a style of play that had suited us so well? Webber. Who then left us with a squad which couldn't play Farkeball but also couldn't play a new pragmatic style? Webber. Who delayed sacking Smith and gave him a month with the players during the World Cup which could have been used by a new manager to good effect? Webber. I accept that he has done a lot for the club at the infrastructural level. I also acknowledge that you could make a similar list. For example, who brought Farke to the club? Who bought Emi and Teemu? The difference is that your list would be about Webber's first two years at the club and my list is about his most recent two years. He's a busted flush whose personal failings have caught up with him and he no longer has the support of many, and perhaps most, fans. IMO, the club will continue sinking downwards until he has gone.
I think the Webber out mob are pathetic. He's not perfect, but when he tries something in the recruitment space and it fails he admits to his mistakes. As Robbie had said Hayden had played CB often for Newcastle so he was the fourth CB if we needed one, then someone like Sorenson would be the DM to fill the gap. However Hayden turned into a white elephant with his injuries. It's like those who want Delia out, probably because they can't remember the fact she saved the club from bankruptcy. I would have loved it if we had have kept Buendia, but when you have a gentleman's agreement you stick to the agreement. If not it would have been worse to have a striking player and others would not want to use us as a stepping stone, because being realistic all clubs bar about two or three in each countries can/ will sell to the bigger fish. This season has been an abject failure (at least we didn't get relegated again) and Webber does have to take some of the blame, but so does Dean Smith and the players. Mentally some of the players have left the building and we have had injuries to our most important positions. The squad is going to change massively this summer and Wagner will have to work out a way to get through to the players mentality. It is the psychological element we need to fix, getting Hernandez on another couple of years is a start. I wonder if they ever see these forums and read up what people are saying, or whether they really do 'ignore the noise'. Things are not good this season, but this is the 'infinite game' next season we can try again.
If reports are true & Webber gambled our parachute payments on promotion this year leaving us without a pot to piss in for the foreseeable then that gamble failed spectacularly. All the Buendia money & some was pissed away on useless wingers like Rashica, Tzolis, Placheta even resorting to play Sargent & Idah as wingers then going back to Hernandez.
In the first half, we had 32% possession, but in the second half it dropped to 12% as we were down to 10 players. Before the sending off, it was around 38%, which was still not good but then Swansea are an intensely possession based team and pass the ball around a lot to keep possession.
I'm more in the middle on this one. Webber has made some big mistakes, but he's also had some big successes like Pukki and Buendia amongst others. My main complaint was the move away from that type of signing to big money gambles on the likes of Rashica and Tzolis and expensive loans that didn't pan out. Sara is another big spend, but that seems to have worked out to a degree. Núñez seemed to be value for money replacing Lees-Melou but that's not yet clear due to his injury. Yesterday that pairing was completely outplayed in midfield. I can't see us having the money to replace Pukki's goal scoring, so Webber will have to come up with something special there. The 'changes' coming over the summer will be a key test of Webber's recruitment strategy for the future. I also wonder what inputs the Attanasios might have, and not just on the money front.
I did a bit of digging following the post from the Norwich fan based in the US can't remember his name. The Brewers have a lease until 2030 at their stadium which is owned by the ciry & it needs several hundred million refurbishments which Annatassio is expecting the US tax payer to shell out or they're threatening to take the Baseball franchise to a different city after 50 years in Milwakee. He's a ruthless businessman that is driven solely by money. I'm pretty sure he's got a good idea about how much our assets are worth especially the land owned by the club to potential developers. He's not our Knight in shining armour & couldn't care less about the Brewers fans or ours .
If Webber and co were keen to get back to EPL for financial reasons, then they should have invested in striker in January transfer window. Pukki was showing signs of ‘going off the boil’ even then. Still don’t understand how two promotions to EFL and two parachute payments have left us skint - again. Idah is not good enough for the Championship and Sargent seems to be lacking any consistency
