Since Raol roamed this earth over the last 13 years, Northumbria Police have been forced to make more than £148m in budget cuts due to austerity measures brought in by the coalition Conservative and Liberal Democrat government elected in 2010, losing 1,100 police across the force. And last month, it was announced that a further 100 PCSO jobs will be cut in response to an £11.7m budget cut.

Judges to lose their power to block deportation flights.

Let them appeal from Rwanda, by all means. Commit to flying them back if they win.

I wonder how many will, and how many succeed. We've got to remove this unwritten law whereby if you get a toe onto British soil you're here for life.

    It's sorted mate ...

... Sunak said, yesterday, we're having 20,000 more police officers.

    Fixed.

Is there still people who believe an actual word that comes out of their mouths anymore?

My 'sources' tell me one of the major time wastings of police time. Is since the cut backs in mental health care, its the boys and girls in blue that pick up the slack.

So care in the community means, send for the police when somebody with mental health problems kicks off. Whereas in years gone most would be supervised/watched over, making sure they took their meds etc, in some institution. Now they are responsible for their own meds, with an occasional visit (if they are lucky) from a social worker. For instance somebody with 'issues' goes missing and a huge search gets underway, sucking up huge amounts of police manpower.

Similarly with 'youth services' huge cut backs in social care etc. So again its the very thin blue line that picks up the problems.

A couple of serving police officers i know, reckon they need different training and experience, nothing to do with crime!

Imagine that, treating people with MH needs as normal members of society, affording them respect and independence instead of locking them up and drugging them up to the eyeballs.

I take your point, but leaving them to fend for themselves to save money, is not helping, its abandoning them.

It’s not all about money, mate. The full system needs a shakeup. There’s been a few members of staff from MH who just aren’t up to the job that I’ve encountered. They lack understanding of real life situations and look for quick ways out by referring you away or they put folk straight on the heavy meds to sedate them to make that problem (temporarily) disappear. The idea is right about giving people independence and freedom to live a life that they are capable of living but the way they’re trying to go about it has been shambolic.

The result will be interesting. We've still got bosses knocking around from the 80s and 90s, but in a culture where being asked to do your job - either to the required standard or even at all - can be construed as bullying.

I think Raab has probably said to Sunak “Be carefuI what you say pal. I know where you live.”

So that's 6,000 new recruits and 14,000 that are going to "retained who would have otherwise left" then?

Looks like Raab has read it and decided he isnt resigning. Labour, despite not seeing it still calling him a bully and demanding he is sacked. Hilarious that the MP who calls others scum is the one demanding he is sacked, and the party who post such dispicable lies about people, call him a bully. He may well be, and Sunak may well sack him, but this opposition party have zero sense of self awareness. Their in fighting is now coming into the public domain, and they have MPs having to apologise in public. Watching them carry on at the minute is horrendous, thinking they will be in power next.

I’d still rather have them in power and give them a chance than this lot, which shows just how bad the current government are.

Voters between a rock and a hard place mate.

It is clear Labour have decided to just go all out nasty. When you have someone like Lisa Nandy talking like she did on TV, and hurling the sorts of base arguments at her colleague McDonnell, suggest to me they are all under a very strict instruction. She even sounded stupid, which she clearly isnt, when saying the adverts were correct but later said she didnt know if Sunak believed child sex abusers shouldnt go to prison. It was a stupid statement on two levels. That isnt how she has ever appeared before, and like McDonnel said it wasnt like her at all. I honestly dont know what Starmer is thinking, to be honest I doubt he is calling the shots at all anymore.

Hardly seems a fella afraid of confontation to me. Each to their own opinion though. I suppose we could have a labour party in charge who would have booted him before any due process based on made up lies and nonsense they put on a poster <laugh><laugh>
