That’s like mentioning the Bale curse back in the day, it stems far beyond just one player. AVB would also be our 3rd best manager in history if we went by percentages.

Son has been poor and subbed off in a large number of games Sessegnon has also started so there’s no genuine correlation Son actually plays well Sessegnon starts. One or both generally get subbed when they start together too, which further implies there’s no genuine link up or partnership between the pair.

Davies I’d agree with you on though, he’s been by far the best LWB this season in his small amount of games.
As you point out though, Son seems to contribute when Sessegnon and/or Davies start.
Perisic seems to be the contributing factor to him not playing well.
This would also appear to be the case last season, when Reguilon and Sessegnon played there.
Son won the Golden Boot and now he's playing badly and people think he should be dropped.

But he’s been poor in a number of starts with Sessegnon this season too, one or both have often been subbed off in their games together, so I don’t see it as being as cut and dry to say Perisic is the contributing factor to Son’s form if there’s been barely any noticeable differences when Sessegnon has started. Son’s just been well off this season, he’s always been a temperamental player at the best of times, it’s just this season we’ve seen far more of the down side to his game than the good.

Davies has played well at LWB regardless of whether Son does or doesn’t. Sessegnon and Perisic haven’t played well, regardless of whether Son has or hasn’t. I don’t think any player has affected Son’s form other than Son himself. His confidence is probably shot now too which isn’t helping matters, take him out the firing line for a while and see what happens.

I'd actually like to see him shifted to the right.
He generally doesn't play better there, but Kulusevski's not playing well either.
I assume we're not going to change formation, so stick Danjuma on the left and see what happens.

If there are three or four games where the rule doesn't hold then it isn't a rule.
It's becoming increasingly likely that Son is in decline though.

There are always certain exceptions and exemptions to rules, in football especially. It’s why we could beat Man City twice last season yet not win the league, because if surely we can beat Man City we should beat everyone else? Son playing well in three or four games doesn’t change the fact he’s had a poor season and should’ve been dropped way more than he has.

I don’t even believe he’s in a decline, at least not yet, I just think he’s in dreadful form and for the sake of the team should’ve been rotated out more, especially as we’ve had multiple other options to utilise such as Gil, Danjuma and even Richarlison.

Maybe playing Son on the left of a midfield three isn't ideal?

It’s an interesting demonstration of a positional problem. Kane plays central or pulls into the left half space, rarely does he pull to the right. With Perisic pushing high on the left it leaves Son in a difficult spot. You’d think he might be able to have some more freedom in his positioning and maybe rotate into the right channel when Kane drops and Perisic pushes on but I don’t know how that would work in practice.

So is Levy to blame for the brain fart of keeping Conte Lite?

Are we going to actually blame him?

I hope so because Levy seems untouchable for some fans

Why do you think that everyone who doesn't demand Levy's sacking must be some kind of Levy fanboy? Why does it have to be all good or all bad. Everything is a shade of grey. I thought I was quite clear that IMHO if you are sacking Conte you can't keep his No.2 because nothing changes, it's as if he hasn't gone. I happen to disagree with Levy's choice of managers since Poch, doesn't mean everything else is right or wrong, I try to consider things separately. I think some people have made up their mind on Levy and will therefore not see anything he does is right.

I don't think that at all because it's not a scatter gun approach...I happily blame players too as most will be aware.

I asked the question because it is the owners call

It's senseless to have got rid of Conte but not his staff. I'm not buying the legalities and contract loopholes people are using to justify it because I've not seen it before

I'm afraid it's on Levy and his thinking

You can't always just nod your head at everything he does.

I could ask you the same question...why the unconditional support?

Its far from unconditional.

Agreed. I was imagining him next to someone like Vertonghen and it would have been a seriously good partnership. Sadly, instead he is next to a player who fancies himself as the immaculate conception of Xabi Alonso and Carlos Puyol, who should've been sold 6 years ago.

Tbf to dier i never thought he was a decent centre back. During his "dominant" years where he was really highly rated poch had him playing am a dm dropping occasionally back into cb when the cbs went ride to carry the ball or follow the cfs. He has too many brainfarts at cb that you can get away with in dm imo

That or he played alongside prime Toby and Jan, who were so good they made Davinson Sanchez look like a professional footballer.

I had to laugh when Sanchez came on and gave the ball away with his first touch, gave away cheap free kicks and I`m sure he fell over once also. We lack incisive forward passing from midfield, Hojbjerg and Skipp are pass it 5 yards sideways or backwards merchants, which just invites more pressure, nobody can pass it forward through the lines, which may also explain why Son is being stifled.

What exactly has Levy done right that is football related, the bloke is a bean counter, that is what he is good at. Regarding football decisions he doesn`t know his arse from his elbow.

The main issue with Perisic is that he habitually occupies the space that Son has thrived in, considering Son has thrived by playing on the left and cutting inside - but he can't do that as Perisic hugs the touchline

That being said, we have seen that exact same dot in that exact same position in a few passmaps in recent weeks that makes it clear that his position there is tactical, and that does throw up the obvious problem: we're telling Son to change his game to accommodate our LWB, a sentence which makes as much sense as Avatar 2 making so much money without James Cameron paying for 75% of those tickets personally
