Just going to throw this out there.
Given how high we were “defending” that free kick, could Bazunu have taken a better starting position to give himself a chance to come out for the ball?
Just watched it back on YouTube, and initially Baz is just outside his 6 yard box then stepped back when the free kick was taken.
The header was pretty much from a central position, no more than 12 yards out.
Should Baz have given himself a better starting position, maybe 8 yards out, and then committed to attacking the ball rather than backing off?
I don’t think that if he had taken a more positive position that he would have been beaten by a direct shot from that distance

It looked like what we used to do all the time from deep free kicks, which is hold our line and catch the runners offside. Nobody went with Aguerd which is what they are told to do, he just timed the run perfectly

Bazunu possibly could’ve been further out but I don’t think this goal is on him really, was just a great delivery and good run. Moyes did his homework on how we defend those free kicks

Rodgers or Potter would be insane coups if we were relegated, both above our level now even with Rodgers being sacked where he has.

Cooper probably more in our league if Forest drop him and would be a good appointment imo.
Quite honestly my comments were more of a shrug of the shoulder type. Like the rest of us the enthusiasm level for this team of ours is running at just above empty. Been a supporter for far too long to run out on empty, but I'm not sure I could withstand another PL season like the last two, especially this one. So if we are to suffer the drop then maybe a season in the CL is currently not the worst thing that can happen, the world will keep on turning and the sun will rise in the east each day and my scarf etc will be still required for when we play whatever league we're in, and we could even win far more games than we lose. Who knows.

I am disappointed to see people turning against Selles and I think that the wrath really needs to be directed towards Sports Republic. Back in August it felt like Ralph had a decent squad that only lacked a decent striker. The club has invested heavily in new players and then has a second attempt at investing in January. Too many fringe player have signed that are not going to get anywhere near the first eleven and , when they do, as has been the case with Big Paul and Edosie, they do not get a run of games.

For me, we were down as soon as we appointed Nathan Jones. It just reinforced my impression that Sports Republic are inept. The departure of so many members of the non-playing staff just reinforced that impression. It was a shame that Gao never put his hands in his pockets during his tenure yet the SR debacle just shows you that spending money is no guarantee of success. As owners, they have been proved to be incompetent and for all their proposed use of statistics and science, they are clearly not as smart as the imagine. They should have spent the money more wisely. SR consistantly get the big decisions wrong. I cannot see any improvement whilst they are the owners.

I don’t know why we signed an international Croatian player who played in the last World Cup and then don’t play him. Makes no sense

You can get 7/1 on us going down. You’d be better off taking that if you really think there’s a chance it might happen (which you don’t).

West Ham may be pretty ****e this season, but they still have some good PL level players. They’ll get them enough points to not be in any real trouble imo.

I get that. We cause ourselves a lot of problems from any set piece.
Not saying it was Baz’s fault but had he taken up a position 8 yards out, he would have been favourite to get to the ball first, given that the header was from just 12 yards out. I think plenty of keepers would have gone for it.
Alternatively WHU might have been forced into crossing the ball further over towards our RB position, giving a worse angle for a header, or crossing the ball around the 18 yard line, again reducing the chances of scoring with a header.
We will have to defend similar free kicks before the season ends and it will be interesting to see if we do change our approach to them.

Feel like I've not had my VAR whinge yet. It really is just soooo ****ing awful. Been around almost 5 years now and I despise it just as much as I did it when it first came in.

If it's here to stay then it absolutely has to have a time limit on it. It simply can't take as long as it did today.

Worst thing about the game today by a country mile. And it was a terrible game of football between two very poor sides.

It was indeed. I sure wouldn't be gloating around the WHU forum if it was us won that 1-0. Both teams were completely ****e and a random chance goal decided it. Certainly looked like 2 relegation candidates out there and 'names' don't mean **** when they walk around and slow the play down before moving it backwards or getting tackled.

I was expecting a loss TBH, its not yet done and dusted but the other results haven't helped us thgis weekend, I'm resigned to relelgation and rebuilding.
