Another rule that is confusing
I thought it was against the rules to stutter your run up at a penalty but refs seem to allow it now
Havertz penalty on saturday was a blatant example

they are only offside if they are interfering with play
before that they are only in an offside position which isnt an offence

As the late, great Bill Nicholson said when his players complained about an offside decision saying he wasn’t interfering with play - “If he’s not interfering with play what is he doing on the pitch?”

should the goalkeeper at the other end stay on the pitch?

You can’t stop or pretend to kick it. As long as you keep moving you can stutter the pace of the approach.

Over 18,000 tickets sold for the Rotherham game already.
Is the west stand upper still closed?
with the spaces around the away fans you would think the rest of the ground would look packed but it doesnt seem to be
there always seems to be plenty of empty seats in the west stand near the dug outs

I dont think protecting your balls or face is classed as a natural position
but there appears to be a body of opinion which says that if it's instinctive it's not a penalty

They talk about the arm being within the silhouette of the body as to whether its handball in those situations nowadays. And if you have had chance to move it out of the way.

Get a rugby union ref who knows about football to ref it and get the fa to fully support him
And let all the other refs ref in the same way

Would be ****ing brilliant and once he’s sent off half the ****s in the first half hour it would cure all the cheating and diving and intimidating refs
This. 100%.
I'd love for it to happen. Can't understand why it hasn't happened. What goes on makes a total mockery of such as 'respect', anti-abuse, etc campaigns.

The West Stand Upper is open for this one.

The empty seats behind the dugouts are the corporate members seats, which they lost under the Allams and haven't yet managed to tempt back.

"I totally agree with Liam Rosenior on this occasion, definitely," former Queens Park Rangers forward Mackie told ITV's highlights show. "I think it’s another bad mistake from a referee. Ebiowei comes in, goes to shoot and Casadei extends his arm and when you extend your arm like that towards the ball we’ve seen penalties given for that all season. Liam Rosenior, this is the frustration [confronting the referee post-match].

"He’s probably gone and maybe not approached [the referee] in the right way but when you’re a manager and your team has played so well on the day and one decision like that, it’s not about what you’ve worked on, all week you’re working on the right philosophy for your players to turn it out on a Saturday, and then for that to get wrong when it is for me such a blatant mistake.”

It obviously should have been a pen, but watching live I didn’t notice/didn’t recall until just watching back the highlights, no other city player appealed and Malcolm’s appeal was only a half hearted ‘trying it on’ type appeal. If it was that clear and blatant our whole team would have been going nuts at the time.

We got away with one in similar fashion against Burnsley midweek.

The worst decision the ref made was at the end blowing up for Carroll on the floor, and then failing to book him after it was clear he was abusing the rules.
