You'd hope that people would have ability to discuss if someone should be free to post personal opinions while working for the BBC, without the need to bang on about people in boats, the quality of life in Albania and when Nazi's starting gassing people.

Sadly, it seems they can't help themselves.
The point is that the pressure that has been exerted on the BBC and their former Tory councillor director general is all political pressure from the Tories, and Tory press (eg the Mail) -- the whole story is political, and sticks in the craw for many because it comes at the same time as the BBC's Tory chairman, who facilitated a loan for Boris Johnson, remains in post. The inherent right-wing bias that has crept into the BBC in recent years has therefore been exposed. But then politics impacts every aspect of life, including sport. There is no way to discuss this story without including politics. As a former BBC journalist, I can tell you that Lineker's comments do NOT explicitly transgress the BBC's editorial guidelines, because he is a freelance sports presenter, and did not discuss the issue during a broadcast but on his own private Twitter feed. Just as Alan Sugar did when calling on people to vote for Boris Johnson, and attacking Jeremy Corbyn.

There have been left leaning Labour supporting Director Generals and others high up in the past. And no doubt will be again.

You cant have watched BBC News this afternoon
They explained exactly how Lineker breached the rules set out for people like him
The rules have been changed recently exactly to cover how Lineker used his TV profile

If Lineker had praised the government’s inhumane policy he’d still be presenting tonight. FACT

If he'd have just said he disagreed with it and didn't support it then he would be still presenting tonight, it's was the over the top ridiculous nazi part of it that's cost him. There just wasn't any need for that part

The problem is that if he had just said he disagreed with stopping illegal immigrants enter the country it would have been easy for people to explain that only legal immigrants should enter the country
he didnt want to be challenged with logic so he had to think of something extreme

there seems to be a mentality nowadays for people who build up a social media following from their football, music, acting, etc. to want to start talking about politics

MOTD for 20 minutes!?
That's an average of about 6 or 7 minutes a game
They show more of the games than that usually I thought
or is there so much nonsense talk about matches?

Appears some still need to educate themselves regarding the difference between an immigrant & a refugee.
It doesnt matter whether they are immigrants or refuges
what people complain about are ILLEGAL immigrants but that seems to have totally passed you by
as well as stopping talking nonsense why dont you stop talking about politics
talk about MOTD instead
