Arsenal crumbled yes but Spurs did well to overhaul them and get 4th

I don’t have Stockholm syndrome regarding Conte and he’s made mistakes but imo he’s not the issue and it’s too simple to say get him gone and bring in someone else and performances will improve.

So what would you have us do?

Given Paratici is likely gone at the end of the season, what would you have us do?

Entrust transfers to Conte so that he can bring in players like Morata, Bakayoko, Drinkwater and Richarlison? Allow him to stunt the development of Sarr, Spence, Gil, Skipp etc.?

Nobody appears to be saying that.

What people like me however are asking is why the
performances of the final third of last season,, and
the first month of this season, have gone to sh*t when :

1. the core of last seasons' squad are still here

2. ADDITIONS to the squad have been made,
nearly all of which were at the whim of Conte

3. there has been no squad injury plague

id get rid of him because he doesn’t fit the profile of our financials
id sack a lot of the back room staff and headhunt some of the best be it fitness and scouting
Id look at the Ajax n Dortmunds as our model instead of the Madrid n Barcas because we don’t live like them.
Id take pride in the football team
Id take a crash course in learning about what makes a winning team

only flaw in above is…that’s what I’d do if I was Levy, unfortunately Daniel is Levy and he’s a clueless clown with Go karting on his mind

We need a manager who understands where we really are in the football hirarchy and can get us to perform above ourselves.

If only Levy would appoint one...but he thinks we can be a top club without the budget or sporting insight and infrastructure to make up for our limited budget.

Mourinho and Conte are what they are and for us, they were vanity appointments, because we were never going to meet their budgets for transfers...which causes friction, sulking, worsening results and the need to piss money away on paying off expensive ex-coaches...

I'm not going to defend Conte. He was the wrong appointment for the club...but having appointed yet another defensive manager, who plays wing backs but not youngsters, to fail to recruit a better CB than Lenglet and a RWB who was likely to make the first XI on a regular basis, was ****ing nuts.

He's been tactically inflexible and personally sulky. That's no ****ing use to us...but it's no surprise to anyone either. He's high maintenance and we're not that kind of club. He was a panicked appointment, to stop the booing. Levy and Conte rejected each other in June of 2021...and history shows that it should have stayed that way.

Two inflexible people like Levy and Conte can't work together for too long, even with Paratici as a buffer. Conte's failed badly but it was on the cards from the start...and that's on Levy.

Brian, I respect what you're saying here, but I do feel like a lot of this is being said with the benefit of hindsight. This wasn't the prevailing narrative when we had this conversation about Conte, Spurs' prospects and Arsenal's prospects at the back end of last season.

Your post on the Transfer Rumours thread from May 25th 2022:

"If we go into next season with Conte, Kane and an empty wallet, where the £150m was, I'm struggling to see either United or Arsenal overtaking us. Nothing's impossible, but Conte's a better coach than Arteta and ten Hag and I think that he'll have a better balanced and more talented squad than both of the closest competition from last season.

Next season, I'm looking up, not down...and I know that Conte is. He got our threadbare 21/22 squad into the Champions League, convinced Levy and Lewis to put £150m in funds into the club and Kane may sign a new contract...the only reason that he's not mastered walking on water, is he's too busy."

This doesn't sound like someone who believed Conte's failure was 'on the cards from the start'.

Everyone changes their mind Brunel because circumstances change. Football is not a science what rules today may well be quite different tomorrow. I don't it's a good idea to go back in posting history to make a point like that.

I’m sorry but I strongly disagree. And my intention wasn’t to make Brian look bad, but I’m just saying that some comments being made are being made in retrospect.

The perceived trajectory of your club and the excitement for the upcoming season was a feeling proliferated throughout the majority of your fanbase. I understand that. And I know it hasn’t panned out the way you hoped, but we shouldn’t be revising history.

Saying less than a year ago that Conte could effectively walk on water and would only get better does not align with now saying that the appointment was a recipe for disaster from the off.

Most comments are in hindsight if you look back I have just said that in a post I made today before your comment. That's not the point.

The point is that it's cheap to go back in posting history to find an argument and it's not necessary. It's not your job to police peoples opinions and it's close to abuse and it's my job to prevent that.

Are you kidding me? I was not looking to find an argument and I am not policing people’s opinions. Abuse? Frankly, that’s an absurd, asinine assertion and I expect an apology from you for that. That’s not an acceptable comment from a moderator.

He can think what he likes. Just as you all can. But my point was it’s important to be honest about how someone felt at the time and how they feel now. Clearly that point went over your head.

We really cannot underestimate the human element of all this. He abruptly lost two close friends and a long standing colleague in the space of a few months, his own health was subject to a genuinely life-threatening scare, his right hand man is under criminal investigation and his family are back home in Italy while he's been living out of a hotel for over a year.

If I/we'd known all of this back in August, I think most of us would've predicted that this season would be a massive struggle.

And I think that’s fair enough. That’s absolutely fair comment. However, the belief that Conte’s appointment was destined to always end on a sour note isn’t something that I truly believe many of you felt. Did you honestly think it was always going to be like this?

Brunel this is the Spurs board you are not a moderator here and your last comment is out of order. My comments to you will stand I don't think it's a good idea to take this any further. Best to let Brian reply to you, if he wants to but as I said I would advise against going back to retrieve comments to back a point of view unless of course it's your own post.

I am going to contact you privately.

Many expected/ knew he was a short term type of guy, we were just hoping we'd get a honeymoon period.

We had the engagement period last season but we've been basically living with an abusive partner this season.
