Amazingly enough my blood pressure is near on perfect at the moment…surprising as I’ve put in a stone in the last 3 weeks and becoming fatter than a beached whale.

(I am assuming you realise my earlier post was in jest ? I wouldn’t want to upset that cold, dark, fascist heart of yours ;) )

Good to hear the blood pressure's in check and you're flourishing, Stainsey. I did realise it was part of your warped sense of humour, you raving Boshevik... :emoticon-0100-smile

It's never been a term that I've used and I don't recognise the term by your definition of it. Why should I be expected to justify myself to people such as you in such terms?

Would you describe yourself as a bigot?

Bigots can come from right or left. The reason I thought you might adopt the term is that the term "woke" was invented by the woke left. That's what they called themselves.

I doubt the right of centre are self-styled gammons, although perhaps they may adopt the term

Fair enough, Beth. I'm trying to figure out why Strolls won't.

Surely in a free world it is up to Stroller what he wants to self identify as ( see what I've done there Goldie )

There are loads of things I would not self identify as ...you know things such as Chelsea supporter or Tory voter. That's my perogative...nowt to do with anyone else tbh

The term originated in the US, Goldie. The only people I hear using it in this country are those from the right who have weaponised it.

Won't insult me Goldie. I will wear it as a badge of honour.

Do you go round calling yourself woke, Beth? Or is it just in response to right wing bigots and racists who like to use the term as a catch-all weapon against anyone with socially left wing views?

I have been called woke in real life once.
I replied with " thank you and you know it means open minded and thoughtful, I appreciate your compliment".

They walked away saying it wasn't a compliment

Far be it for me to interfere with what Strolls self-identifies as, Beth. I was just interested in reasoning, but perhaps it's too intrusive!

If it's good enough for Beth, I see no reason why you should not come out as woke, Strolls.

Just seen that the Tories seem set on their aim to raise the pension age to 68 by 2035.
Of course that will entirely **** me over as means I would then have to work another year before getting a state pension.
Honestly can’t see myself being able to physically do my job at that age…..or maybe they are hoping I’ll die before I get to take it

Of course that's the plan mate, hope everyone dies before being eligible to claim it. Saying that, Blair and the labour govt were ****s where the pension was concerned too

I've been called many things in my lifetime but never a woke. The young me probably had a similar thought process as Goldie regarding certain topics. The older me, who has seen the harsh reality of life too many times to mention now could well be described as a woke. Life's precious, doesn't matter where you come from, how you get there, what colour of skin you have, age or sex.

To be fair, Bob, I couldn't care less about skin colour, age or sexuality (so long as providing for the latter doesn't damage others). But I do believe in national borders, I believe in the rule of law, and I believe in the security of the state and knowing who it is that's coming into the country, because there are many who would come here to do our citizens harm (only last week, the Iranian dissident TV channel had to relocate to Washington DC because there had been 15 attempts by Iranian henchmen to kill or kidnap employees in the UK).

It's a dangerous world in the UK now, but more dangerous still beyond. Laissez faire doesn't work where immigration is concerned.

On a related topic, Blair and Hague have come up with what I think it a excellent suggestion to give everyone in the UK a digital passport on their smart phone. I think we're going to hear more about this.

Don't worry, we'll all give you an extra clap to retire on. If you invest that clap today, it will compound into many more claps by the time you retire.
