Dont see Gelhardt as the point man personally. Not in the same way Stewart is. He seems more of a 10 to me, or one to play off a 9 as a double forward. I would be amazed if Mowbray wasnt thinking of him and Stewart playing together personally.
Am sure the data analysis team have already identified a replacement for Ross Stewart incase he decided to leave this month, let’s see what the next couple of days bring? For the first time since I can remember I am not worried one iota, this system we have gives me a lot of faith, long may it continue, Haway the Lads.
That would be a very sensible move imo. Younger than Stewart and a similar kind of mobile athletic forward. Should be able to hit the ground running. Well worth a couple of million for me.
2 up top for us is just a no go for me. It means weakening the midfield which we have an abundance of quality in and dropping either Clarke Diallo or Stewart. Geldhart played as a lone striker Leeds when Rodrigo and Bamford were injured. Whilst Stewart will undoubtedly be a huge miss I’m less concerned having another unselfish striker here who’s been playing regularly in the Prem, albeit it one who’s obviously not the target man Stewart is - but on that note how many goals does Stewart score with his head?
That's why I'd say Stewart has such a high value. Hardly any player wants to be the No9 now. Big responsibility, must score goals, must run in behind, must occupy centre halves. There is a too long list of players who could be No 9 who want to No 10 instead as it involves less physical hounding, less demand for 20 goals a season, and less scrutiny. I always thought Bendtner was a good example of this.
What we must realise is that we have probably lost Ross for a year until he’s back to his normal fitness. A makeshift centre forward isn’t really what we want, or someone to fill in for Ross for a few games until he’s back. We shouldn’t just be treading water for a year hoping that Ross will return and we can carry on where we left off. I don’t see Simms as an adequate replacement. He is ok to come on now and again as a sub but not as the new Stewart for a year. If Gelhardt gets injured we have no strikers. We have a fantastic squad so it doesn’t make sense if we have a big weakness regarding strikers. We need to get the best striker possible and maybe Simms for backup. Even if Ross is back in as little as 4 months the season will be over. We can forget him for this season. Hopefully by next season he will be firing on all cylinders again. I reckon he will stay with us. I also think any potential buyers may be put off with him having two injuries, both seemingly from nothing but both long lasting. Of course, if Ross’s injury isn’t as bad as we fear then maybe he will be back in a few weeks but it doesn’t look good at the moment. Oh, and, we were fantastic today.
That's a big call mate, not saying you are wrong but Rossco burries a fair few % of his chances. Gelhardt, to me, is more or a 10 in the Pritchard role pressing. But, if Gelhardt fancies smashing in 20 goals in the second half of the season then that will do me.
Sorry was date night with the missus so was banned from the forum for a few hours Here's a few young strikers I have seen that we should be keeping an eye on: Ranos - Bayern - 19 and scored 13 in 21 for the reserves (out of contact end of the season) Rijkhoff - Dortmund - 18 and scored 10 in 11 for the u19s - huge fan of this lad Botheim - Salernitana - 23 and has struggled since joining them in the summer but he's a handful Dickson - Man City - unlikely to get this lad with getting Gelhardt on loan but I've always liked him when I've seen him Soonup-Bell - Chelsea - A few have mentioned him before and he would be class (out of contact end of the season) Burstow - Chelsea - just check out his goal against Oxford earlier this season Plenty of good players out there for us so hopefully we signed one permently Still think we need a CM and I would like a CB as well if I was being greedy
Joe Anderson coming in from Everton https://www.si.com/soccer/sunderlan...underland-talks-joe-anderson-everton-defender
Seen him a couple of times, never stood out but that can be a good thing as a CB. If I remember right he's pretty good at playing out from the back, good on both feet
