Stating the obvious i suppose...., lots of extra pressure to get another striker in before window closes now.
Would anyone take that £10-15m from Everton for Stewart with Simms thrown in now? Obviously joking. Gutted for the lad, but if it's a long term injury, I'll be surprised if we get anything for him now sadly. Hope he bounces back quickly, signs the new contract, and gets back into the team soon.
I would hope that the club do right by him but it just shows that if players are offered the riches of a premier league contract they have a real dilemma as to whether to move or stick with a club like us through loyalty. You just never know when a career threatening injury can hit you. Let’s hope he makes a full recovery however long it takes.
what mowbray is saying, i think the already have a ruff idea how bad it is, don't think we'll see stewert again this season
I think Mowbray is hinting at bring in some experience, not so much more youngsters. I am sure he is right that we need a bit extra experience. Thinking aloud, Will Keane is out of contract in the summer and sounds like Wigan may need some money. Probably a very hard deal to do though. Clarke-Harris could be done but someone was saying recently his attitude can be problematic. He has the game to play here I think. I find it hard to think of others we could go for. Essential we keep the likes of Pritchard and Wright I think though now, just to bring that know how when needed.
I wasnt a fan myself but last year and this he has really impressed me. Finally getting the goals and is a good hold up player. I reckon Wigan wont sell anyway, but if they did I would be happy enough to see him in to give us an option we now dont have.
The next 72 hours are going to be interesting and a real test for the recruitment team. A few people have said that promotion this year would be too soon but on todays evidence I think we could give the Premier league a good go if we were to go up. We are obviously working to a budget but given what’s happened today with Ross could we push the boat out and pay a bit more to get in a recognised striker (if any are available!)
It goes without saying but the issue we have is that every bloody club is after a striker. They’re all going to be too expensive, unless they’re the types of “project” signings we’ve been making. Basically I can’t see a scenario where Ellis Simms isn’t a Sunderland player on Wednesday.
