Let’s not pretend there was a point.

    Hello dt

To be fair with all the quatari cash sloshing around the eu parliament I'm surprised the Tories haven't started the campaign to rejoin themselves

Not politics really, but here's something. My daughter received a notification that she'd been fined for a traffic offence, committed a few days ago in Hackney. The letter showed a picture of what appeared to be her car, complete with what was definitely her registration number. The thing is, she's never been to Hackney and was ill in bed on the day the offence was committed. Her car was outside the house all day.

She reported this to the Police, but, whilst they were sympathetic, they told her that cloning a number plate wasn't a criminal offence.

    What the ****?

    Can't happen here
Only the government department can make plates
Unless they are personalized no copies are given out
If you crash your car and damage the plates completely new ones with different numbers are issued

Lots of plates do get stolen for drive offs but the petrol station cameras can prove it's not attached to your car

At least she's had the sense to have never travelled to hackney

Are they still going to fine her? I think she needs to let the DVLA know. And also take very detailed pictures of her car, especially dents, scratches etc, to show that the ‘cloned’ car isn’t hers. Likely to happen again I’m afraid, then plates were cloned for a reason…..

She's appealed the fine and has notified the DVLA, but they didn't seem particularly interested either. All the Police would say is that they'd put an ANPR alert against the registration number, which probably means she'll get stopped herself. A real pain.

As someone of Armenian heritage, and remaining broadly pro-EU membership, I'll give it a listen. However, my starting bias is that the plight of Armenia is ignored by pretty much all major economies - EU, US, UK etc - in the name of realpolitik. Sadly it's only really been Russia that has been an ally to Armenia in recent decades, and that comes at a large price.

The US made a fantastic first step in recognising the Armenian genocide for what it was last year, but they're not going to take any further steps to provide military assistance and stop the encroachment of Azerbaijan. Nor will the UK or the EU.
