Call me crazy but I'm not writing us off yet.

From their celebrations the other night I'm hoping they think it's job done and are a tad complacent. If we can get the first goal then it's game on but hopefully it's not too early. They score first and it's done though.

Plus they'll be missing a few players presumably as at least four of them died in the first half the other night.

I’m liking the theory and optimism mate but there’s one small problem…

You lot are absolute pony.

Southampton were unlucky in the home leg, and probably could have gotten something from it, but I agree, at St James, they will probably get twonked

Yeah that's the flaw in my plan for sure <laugh>

If we can beat City 2-0 though we can win 1-0 up there if they do have any complacency. Prowsey free kick on 82 mins and then win on pens

Really I'm just trying to convince myself it's worth the 650 mile round trip lol. It's the hope that kills you and we've got nothing to lose at least.

I'd be more nervous about it had we won 1-0 bizarrely.

We know it will take a few years before we develop that winning mentality, when it comes to finals etc.

Hopefully it won't take us so long that they start naming a losing mentality after us. After all Spursy rolls off the tongue a lot easier than Newcastley.

Winning the first one is the hardest. Once you win once then it’s easier. This is why Spurs keep failing in big games.

I'll certainly be cheering Southampton on in the 2nd leg.

Looking at it objectively as a neutral of course.

Pope not conceded in 10 games, unbeaten at home since almost a year ago (one game), lost one league match all season. But there's only 1 goal.

I can see us going all out in the first 20 minutes to try and put the tie to bed. If you get through that, or score, then the nerves will gradually seep through. My guess is 0-0 and everyone being stressed afterwards.

Maybe people did back in the 60’s

reckon people used to going around saying ‘don’t go all Toony’ to other teams

@duggie2000 to confirm

then fast forward 50 plus years and I guess people just got bored of saying it somewhere along the line

The one that comes to mind in the good old days was the back page headline in the Sun after we did the double over Aston Villa and helped get them relegated to the old Third Division
Aston Vanilla the team everybody loves to lick

As for Newcastle it was "who", is that the place near Sunderland where they brew Newcastle Brown Ale

Fair enough. I don't I'd be expecting much general knowledge from people who had to clarify where Newcastle Brown Ale came from anyway.

Forest are done ... you've still got every chance... if you should score first, the weight of expectation on Newcastle could really get into their players heads ...

I'm hoping you crumble in the atmosphere tbh, it will be electric.

I don't think anyone is celebrating like we are through, just glad to win 1-0 instead of lose 1-0.

Still in the balance.

Dyche is the safe option short term. The football won’t be attractive but you would expect him to make them harder to score against and more organised. Long term I don’t see how he makes them anything more than a mid table side though and the style of football won’t be progressive or exciting

Mid table Championship?

They left it way too late, need at least 3 attacking players
