Conte said Kane played with a fever today. Considering the form Son’s been in too, just what was the point of us spending £60m on Richarlison if he can’t be trusted to displace a **** Son or unwell Kane? And it also begs the question why Conte pushed so hard for this signing too. I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt even though I’ve never rated him but half way into the season, he’s scored in just one game for us and that was against 10 men and is yet to score a league goal. I hoped/ expected he’d be an upgrade on Lucas and Bergwijn but despite costing more than the pair combined he’s no better. Disastrous bit of business.
And he was the one signing Conte seemed adamant to make, too. Took a leaf out of the same part of his brain that signed Morata, Bakayoko, Drinkwater, Zappacosta, Emerson and Batshuayi when he was at Chelsea.
Begs the question as to what even Conte sees/ saw in him. Bog standard striker that’ll wind up the opposition once in a while and dive at every opportunity. I’m genuinely so pissed off at such a stupid decision to sign him, and unlike previous big money flops, we didn’t need hindsight to know this wouldn’t be a success.
His best position is to basically play where Kane does so he’s never gonna get a solid run there and he isn’t versatile enough to play effectively on the wings, so he’s been a pointless waste of money as many of us expected because you can get an adequate backup to Kane for less than £20m. Vinicius and Llorente proving just that. We should’ve gone for Zaha. Better player, more versatile and would’ve cost less too, plus has the added bonus of being HG.
On this one, we'll have to disagree. He could be a far better asset than Zaha (who I rate), Vinicius and Llorente put together...but we don't play him. It's just another inexplicable Spurs transfer. Did Conte want him? Did Levy? Did Paratici? I have no idea...but he's a very good forward, given the chance to show it.
I think Zaha is a miles better player and the fact he’s proven across multiple positions made him a far better proposition. He also has that ability that our main front three are capable of and that’s turning a game on its head from his own doing. Richarlison isn’t that sort of player, he’ll need others crossing or passing to him to finish a chance. Richarlison was by all accounts Conte’s signing. Which makes it feel even worse because Conte doesn’t even fully trust the one player he extensively pushed for, which to me would imply Conte now realised he just isn’t much cop.
I've also heard that he was a Conte pick...and that might be the case...but I'm struggling to see why he'd push so hard to sign him and use him so little... He's a lot better than we've seen from him...as is the case for Bissouma and probably Spence...but something at the club isn't right...
I keep reading that we haven't made any signings. Don't know what you are looking at but clearly we signed a new right wing back. So much better than the other guys.
On the basis of Son’s form we could wonder why he hasn’t started more but before a ball was kicked this season everyone was surely well aware that Kane, Son and Kulusevski were our strongest front three, so I don’t think many thought Richarlison would start regularly over any of them. What I was hoping for is that he’d provide an upgrade from off the bench over Lucas and Bergwijn - he hasn’t. As for the others and something not being right - Conte, that’s the problem.
Richard seems to have been signed under the assumption we'd be playing 352 or 3412 this season Which we haven't, by and large
That still wouldn’t change the fact he’d be on the bench most games if everyone was fit, as has been the case so far with the 343.
Given the typical low quality of WUM wannabee posting is Diego, the board probably enjoyed your attempt at raising the level above such a low benchmark.
