Bang to rights but some in the party will likely still try to save him.

For anyone still in any doubt about the accusations we're dealing with in relation to Andrew Tate, here's some stuff about him. Warning, it's horrible and involves clear and explicit descriptions of alleged rapes by an alleged victim.

These are allegations of very serious crimes by an individual. They aren't allegations of "morally dubious" or "consensual" or "jokes taken out of context" behaviour. They are allegations of violent rape.

At the moment he's innocent as none of this has turned up in court (for eye watering reasons). I suspect that there will be more of this to come out and, hopefully, to end up in court so he can face justice.

He has spoken about this before in interviews.

From his point of view, this was one of his cam girls who was doing a bad job, and he fired her. Then she cried rape, and the voice notes were jokes which obviously sound terrible in hindsight.

(I’m in no way defending him, if he did do it. Just stating what he has said. I agree it sounds extremely dubious).

I sincerely hope the truth comes out and justice is served, whatever the truth.

But it’s looking a lot like there is basically zero evidence against him in this new case as well. His lawyer said it’s a Moldovan girl that has filed a report and there is no other evidence, and the girl isn’t in the country, so I assume he will be released soon whether he is guilty or not.

How can you claim so confidently that the voice notes were jokes? On what basis are you making this pretty bold claim. And you can't use his say so as a basis.

Also - it really isn't that hard to find examples of him telling on himself. Confessing to all sorts of crimes. Video, text, whatsapp. The lengths some people seem prepared to go to in order to hand-waive it all is astounding to me

He said that, not me. I am not claiming or trying to defend anything.

Actually this is the one thing that gives me a slight doubt about his guilt. If he has done it, I don’t think he would be so open and public about all of the other stuff.

But I guess many horrific people have done similar

The thing that gives Os doubt about his guilt -- after all the other reasons he raised doubt about his guilt -- is how open Tate is about his guilt. Perfection.

On the climate change discussion: it's mid-January here and the grass is green. We've had a couple freezes, but nothing prolonged. We haven't had a snowfall of more than a couple inches yet (and everything we have had melted in short order). Didn't have any significant snowfall after the end of February last year, either. I haven't so much as touched a snow shovel in 10.5 months.

20 years ago, the first vineyard opened up in the area. They grew a grape cultivar that produced good ice wine, a variant grown in cold-weather climes where being exposed to the frost increased the sugar content, making it a desirable dessert wine. At that time, you didn't have any other option; the odds were too high that a frost would set in early and destroy your crop. There are now eight wineries within a ten minute drive of me. None of them grow grapes for ice wine; they couldn't if they wanted to, and our growing season is now more than sufficient for standard varieties.

The biggest threat is that, while we get much more rain over the course of a year now, we get very arid conditions in the summer. Much more so than previous, and we've had droughts that threatened or outright destroyed crops, and dried wells and reservoirs. That also wasn't the norm. When you have based the whole of your economy on the secondary agricultural market (read: we grow things and then turn them all into booze), that's a real problem.

This isn't just weather. The Gulf Stream has shifted, markedly. It was once pretty clear what our weather would be based on what was happening in central/Eastern Canada and upper New England; their weather would consistently reach us in a couple days, that's just how the Gulf Stream worked. Maine got a massive snowstorm yesterday. Ontario/Quebec has been in a period of cold, dry weather. And it's 12 Celsius and raining here. It is expected to be raining here for the next 4-5 days. People like Os can deny **** all they want, but this isn't a short-term anomaly. Our climate today is completely different than it was 20 years ago, and all indications are that it's a permanent change. I'm just glad that our climate change only means that we get better wine, rather than that in Australia where my sister lives, where climate change means that they only have two seasons (fire and flood).

As much as I agree with the below report, yet again it shows the hypocrisy of the Tory government. They voted down a bill that would have made it unlawful to provide rented accommodation that wasn’t fit for habitation, so this is another unnecessary death that has their fingerprints all over it.
I also hope that any changes that they make aren’t restricted to just social homes but ALL rented properties. The private rental market needs to operate to the same standards with private landlords facing the same sanctions as housing associations and councils.

MINISTERS are reviewing guidance to landlords over mould and damp after the death of toddler.

Awaab Ishak, two, died in December 2020 from a respiratory condition caused by mould in his flat.

Rochdale Boroughwide Housing in Greater Manchester failed to fix it despite his parents’ pleas.

Ministers Michael Gove and Steve Barclay want guidance on social homes to cover damp and mould.

They also want to review the housing health and safety rating system.

Access to the Housing Ombudsman and details about damp and mould will be looked at.

A policy that housing associations wait for tenant’s complaints to be settled before repairs are done could end.

Mr Gove said the death highlighted the need for “renewed action to ensure every landlord makes certain that tenants are housed in decent homes”.

    This is eye watering.

THE world’s richest 1% of people have amassed £21trillion of new wealth in the past two years – nearly twice as much as everyone else put together, a report claims.

Oxfam found extreme wealth and extreme poverty have increased simultaneously for the first time in 25 years.

Its findings are published as the world’s elite gather this week for the World Economic Forum in the Swiss ski resort of Davos.

The charity said the “wealth explosion” has been fuelled by governments and central banks injecting vast sums of public money into the global economy since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This drove up the price of financial and other assets, which disproportionately benefited the richest. The report said: “While governments did the right thing in supporting their economies, they have done little to ensure this stimulus was clawed back from the richest.”

The richest 1% have a total wealth of £173tn, said Oxfam. Among those whose wealth has soared since 2020 is Bernard Arnault, of luxury goods group LMVH, up from £71billion, to £149bn.

Businessman Michael Bloomberg’s fortune is up from £55bn to £62bn, Nike’s Phil Knight’s from £27.7bn to £35.2bn, and confectionery heir John Mars from £23.2bn to £32.4bn. In 2021, it was claimed Amazon founder Jeff Bezos paid a tax rate of less than 1% from 2014 to 2018. His fortune is £90bn.

Tesla tycoon Elon Musk, who owns Twitter, has an estimated £120bn.

Oxfam’s analysis found Britain’s richest 1% hold more wealth than 70% of the rest of the population.

Chief exec Danny Sriskandarajah, said: “Close to a billion people are going hungry. But for billionaires, every day is a bonanza. Governments must stop acting for the vested interests of the few.”

Ian Gregg, former boss of bakery chain Greggs, is among over 200 millionaires urging global leaders to tax the ultra rich. He said: “Now, more than ever, the wealthiest must contribute more. ”

Just a reminder that the non-democratic government of Russia is still sending conscripted young men to be killed in order to occupy large parts of a neighbouring democratic nation whose defenders are also dying in huge numbers.

The Russians are now lobbing missiles into residential areas. I'm sure someone will be along to blame the US government or arms manufacturers.

    • The number of people killed in a Russian missile attack on a residential block in Dnipro has risen to 35, according to Ukrainian officials. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said in his latest address that the victims included a 15-year-old girl. At least 73 people were wounded and 39 people had been rescued as of Sunday afternoon. The city government in Dnipro said 43 people were still reported missing. “The chances of saving people now are minimal,” Dnipro’s mayor, Borys Filatov, told Reuters. I think the number of dead will be in the dozens.”

    • Claiming responsibility for the missile strikes across Ukraine, Russia’s defence ministry said on Sunday that it achieved its goal. A ministry statement posted on Telegram said: “All designated targets have been hit. The goal of the attack has been achieved.” However, it did not mention the attack on the Dnipro residential building.
