Well over a decade ago, I stopped working for about 6 months, and just lived off my own finances. Although what I didn't know, it causes a problem when you have a security check (or whatever it's called). Because your stamp wouldn't have been paid, so you couldn't prove within the system, where you've been for that time. So for all your new company knows you could have been inside. The only way I got round it in the end was with bank statements, which showed during the period, that there were ingoings and outgoings by me and that I had sufficient funds to support myself during that period. It appears when you claim benefits, they supply the proof of your unemployment dates, which they can't do if you never signed on.
A lad from my town was shot dead in Mexico about 6 months ago. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Utterly tragic and completely random. It is actually a beautiful country and on the whole Mexicans are very hospitable and friendly people, but the cartels run the place and corruption runs rife right through politics and the police.
