Retires from club and international football with immediate effect. Wants to concentrate on Golf I’d guess?
Playing POV he could have been up their with the very very best.... Mindset wise he just didn't have it ( or at least it dwindled). I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the golf pro am circuit etc
hows it waste of a career? he won everything at a club level and helped take wales to euros and world cup for the first time in 50 odd years his legs have gone, he doesnt want to play at a subpar level now plus he had constant injury problems
Hardly, he's more or less at the end of his playing days, he's made a pile of money. He can start a new career if he wants to, maybe he just doesn't like football as much as some others, maybe just fancies a change?
It's amazing that with everything he's won and achieved, people will always say he could have done more and rightly so
I'd be astonished if he doesn't have any regrets over his career and if he doesn't then that says it all. He was a fantastic talent, but didn't have the same mentality and drive as people like Messi/Ronaldo/ibrahimovic etc
Exactly as Howden said. Yes won trophies and had a little success with Wales, but he could have done so much more. Was on course to potentially be the greatest British player ever and a talent that could have remained a household name all over the world for generations to come, not sure if even say he was the best British player of his generation.
The way he was treat by Madrid fans was shocking though considering he’s something like their 4th highest goal scorer of some sort
I suppose some will say he brought it on himself with how he acted etc. A bit like Bullard here when he was here ( closet to home comparison I could think of )
Must have been the realisation that he'd never be managed by the mastermind that is Sir Steve of Bruce.
Match winning goal and assist in 2 seperate champions league finals you’d imagine would gain eternal respect
Exactly, roll up for the final, but do very little to help get the team there. He’ll be forgotten about by most people when it comes to great Welsh players.
Gareth Bale has announced he'll take part in his first professional golf tournament next month just two weeks after retiring from football.
