I didn t read any of the thread but i am bloody outraged, about what ? i don t know, but something needs to be done.... To who?, i don t know that either, but i am on the bandwagon too
Agreed with this as well. Some of us are not on here as much as maybe We would like, and by the time we are, may Have missed a flash point I hope we can sensibly get this sorted as most of the banter with the blue half is good, and nothing like the drivel that was on BBC 606 for those who rememeber - like when the snake pit was set up. Remember all the fake Norwich fans as well.
I'm fianaly up to speed, I think, with whats been going on and my suggestions are.. We started a Newcastle/Sunderland banter thread, anything goes and its doing fine, copied of the Man U/Liverpool boards. Cross threads we are looking at but for now do what everyone else does, if you get one you cant mod tell me, I take it off your board, do it every day for other boards. Daft to let things get to this stage if it can be stopped.
Has somebody pissed on your parade today Northamps? Not that I am disagreeing with what you say in any way but your tone today has been the most direct I have seen for some time across the threads. It didnt stop me from laughing at your comment though!
Hang on, this really is serious... 'Sid' is Tony Munky!!! Why the name change? I hereby officially start the campaign demanding you return to your former moniker immediately! Munky!!!
Guilty No real reason for the change, just fancied something a bit different and - shock horror - neither are my real names Nothing to hide and I can go back to Tony if you'd prefer, though like I said I don't tend to spend as much time on here as I used to. And just wanted to say Dave, Thai and anybody else who might have felt affronted by my earlier post, nothing personal at all guys and I concur with others in saying you do an awesome job modding this forum. I was a bit harsh by saying it's not a patch on the old 606, that's silly for me to say that so I'll take it back. I do however still think we need to chill a bit and not get upset about stuff so much, it is only banter, nothing offensive, and is why a lot of people enjoy these forums so much. Heck I used to dive right in, two-footed over the ball with all the wums back in the day before I got bored of it a couple of years back and realised it's just not worth it and only adds fuel to their fire. This isn't even really wumming though as at least there was a reason for the post yesterday and to be honest if somebody hadn't posted something about Bent I would have felt disappointed. The great thing about forums like this is that you can choose what you do and don't read and if any thread starts doing your head in just ignore it and stick last season's highlights dvd on Friends again?
My dream team didn't make many points this week and I'm missing out on the £100 kitty I'd say a 7/10 on the pissed off scale.
Sid, dear old mate Or munky, how great To see you come out of your shell, How goes it with Clive And his fitness drive Is the little chap still fit and well?
I suspect that being a moderator is an impossible task. Some people class things as banter, some will take it as an insult. It seems to be a no-win situation and for that, dave and Thai have my greatest respect. Clearly the aforementioned post was just intended as a joke, albeit from our point of view not particularly humorous. As DM mentioned I'm sure some of us would have done the same had the boot been on the other foot. However, if Thai is to be believed, and I have no reason not to, that's just the tip of the iceberg. I'm not on here as much as I'd like these days, so I'm not going to comment on what else has gone on, without knowing the facts. A suggestion raised was a 'banter thread' which in theory would be a good idea. However who's to say it'll be used properly anyway. If people want good natured banter then it should work but if people want to wum, then they're going to do it wherever they wish. Anyway I've gone on too long and forgotten what my main point was now () so I'll leave it with this. No matter what you do, someone will disagree with you. That is why I would hate being a mod, I try to please everyone and that simply isn't possible. But without mods this place would be unusable. So please respect them for what they do, and think what it it'd be like without them.
Well, some of you appear to be getting a better understanding of what we are trying to do on here and why, that is a little encouraging. Although we perhaps have only 40 or so regular posters, many tend to forget we also have many 'viewers' and not just Norwich fans that do not contribute. If we have a board littered with nonsense (WLOH style, if he run the board) then the level of the board would become no more than a playground if we continued to let that happen. I am sure some people would be delighted at that prospect but I can assure you the majority do not want that sort of forum. If you want a playground - go and create your own forum. There are plenty available that cost nothing Striking the right balance is far from easy but we have tried to keep the board 'sensible' and have acted with a sense of responsibility on behalf of our fans. One of the messages we have tried to get over is about WUM's and this is where we have differing views among our members. I will try to explain what I see as a WUM post - if you can convince me it is just banter I will hold my hands up and apologise. Let's take the Bent thread as it a perfect example. Over the last few weeks, because we have not been losing games the Binners have been pretty quiet as they have had no ammunition to take the piss with. However, on Saturday we lost to Villa and an ex-binman happened to score two of the goals.......and along comes what I see as the inevitable thread. Why is it a WUM post? - Had we won 4-3 there would have been no mention of Bent - it really is that simple! In fact there would have been no mention of the game at all from south of the border. However we lost and it was bait to get a take from Norwich fans. Had HangingHog actually joined in with the match day thread and introduced some comments along similar lines and made a discussion about it I am pretty certain it would have been viewed differently but he chose to try an wind some people up by starting his own thread (and has said as much later in that same thread) on the Ipswich board and tagged our board on to it where we had no control of it. To myself, Dave and most moderators on Not606 - that is a WUM post! Try and do it on the QPR board and see what happens! it will not be welcomed. Christ, even if you try and start a sensible thread on that board you are unlikely to actually get many replies or told to sod off because they only want to talk all things QPR with other QPR fans! Moving on to some of the comments on this thread and the Bent thread. Some have said they cannot support anything without all the facts. To me that is fair comment but on the other hand we have others who have stated it is an over reaction but again without all the facts and that is an unfair comment. Those people have only looked at it from one angle (theirs), Dave and myself need to look at things differently and need take in to account other viewpoints. We do not have the luxury of sitting back and letting everything pass us by. We have a responsibility to other members of Not606. What has gone on behind the scenes, to my mind, should stay there. Yes we have had very opposing views to Guru & Yorkie and have tried to make our respective arguments but have not managed to reached a cross board agreement that we are both happy with. Exactly what has been said is not really anyone's business except for the 4 people concerned and it would not be right to publicly broadcast it. We might not get on well with our counterparts on the Ipswich board but at the same time we are not gone to vilify them on here either. No point in making a pretty sour relationship any worse (if that is possible). WLOH - You are an idiot and you will never be invited to become a moderator, unless you create your own forum - see above. I have never seen a football related discussion where you have actually talked about football! So my question to you is - why do you come on to a football forum? My guess would be just to let the world know you are here. It might dent your pride a bit but not many people actually care.
If/when Not606 manage to make it possible for moderators to delete threads created on another board, proper control can be had. Until theat time the cross board threads are open to abuse and sadly are abused on most boards all too often. When they are not used for WUMMING they can be a very good interaction between fans. CS match day threads are a good example of this. The Liverpool one was superb. Friendly stereotype banter but mutual respect from both sides throughout
Thank you Thai, I allowed myself to get wound up by one or two comments that, it was obvious, the posters either had not properly read the thread or had not understood our (Thai and myself) perspective of it! Thai, you have made our case with style and eloquence, and for that I thank you! On another point, I am home all day waiting for the Electricity board to turn up and do some work on my meter, so if I disappear in mid-post, I apologise!
What were you saying about euphemisms the other day? Sid - Good to have you back, you will have to share with us the "Tony Munky name saga" one of these days, never tire of that story!
