It's a strange city, Egbaston's quite a good area I've had a few mates live there and a girl I used to see ended up at Uni in Birmingham and lived in Selly Oak which was a bit of student area when I visited and didn't seem too bad.

The city centre's not bad I used to go clubbing a lot in Birmingham as one of my mates worked for one of the big nightclubs up there, to get back to Egbaston where they lived you had to walk near some area called Ladywood it was a bit shifty looking but I never had any trouble, but a couple of mates were walking back from a night out at about 5:30 AM, then out of nowhere about six beamers pulled up and a load of black and Asian blokes attacking one another with baseball bats and iron bars, sounded dodgy.

It took me rather a long time to get to taste a decent curry.
My first ever try was a fhal. <yikes>
A so called army mate told me it was just like a spicey stew. <grr>
I managed 1 piece of meat before my throat felt like it had been ripped out.
Took me years before I could bring myself to try another one. Now I'm afraid I'll only go as far as a jalfrezi.

Jalfrezi all the way fair play Maesto! Phal is lethal there is a curry in this neck of the woods called Lamb Naga which is rumoured to be hotter. Madras is my level I struggle with it.

Need to try and change my curry as I always go for Jalfrezi, tried Dansak a month ago wasn't a fan.

Was a good couple of years before I could even try an Indian.
I used to go into a curry house and have an English with a nan, just so I could have a chip buttie <yikes>

Thats meant to be a sign of being a proper man measured by the strength of your curry! In India their food is delicately spiced and balanced, not the paint stripper that we get over here!

I went clubbing in Brum once - once and never again. Went to the Que Club on Corporation Street. Luckily as we had bussed it there and got there three hours before it opened we started queueing early right in the doorway. As the queue built up amazingly about ten back from us a car pulled up out jumped some guy, stabbed some poor git and took his phone and wallet then pissed off. I was trying to stay calm as my mates were openly ****ting themselves (secretly I was ****ting myself too) I tried to explain to the bouncers to let us in - their response was to lock us all out!!! ****ers. When we eventually got inside it was like a converted church so you could see down on the crowd in certain sections and then we could see that all the bouncers were dealing **** knows what too! Come 8a.m. when the gig finished we left Brum to my relief. It was the biggest ****hole I have ever had the misfortune to be in. I have never looked forward to getting on a bus that I knew was going to take 6 hours to get back to Norwich in my life!!! :emoticon-0119-puke:

Respect to both you jalfrezi lovers, that's a good heat to go for

Trouble I find with the jalfrezi is from restaurant to restaurant the heat can vary as much as ipswichs form this season

Sounds grim. I've been to venue you are speaking about it's always had a bit of a dodgy reputation I know an Aussie girl who was caught taking drugs, she and her other half were put in a room terrified by door staff whilst her other half was thrown down a set of stairs she was punched in the stomach by the evil bastards who took her gear it was either the Que Club or Sanctuary where that happened.

There are two gangs in Birmingham Johnson Crew and The Burger Bar Boys to my knowledge they have some involvement with door security firms in the past not all, but these are not little kids selling weed on a street corner it's a lot bigger and organised then that. If the door staff are not associated with a gang if their not selling drugs for them then they allow a gangs dealers to work the clubs, in fairness Law abiding Doorman and most Promoters have a ton of **** to contend with it's a Catch 22 situation sometimes. There has been a massive problem with nightclubs and gangs since the 80's when a certain group of football hooligans from East London bored of fighting on the terraces decided they wanted to become gangsters and terrorise the Acid House scene in the South East.

<laugh> Cheers Max. I've had some swimming with birds eye chillies others being a bit more acceptable, I generally avoid Jalfrezi or Curry for that matter if I'm going for a big night out afterwards. What's your usual choice?

Hmmm tough one Northants, either a korai, Balti or sometimes a jalfrezi (whilst going easy on the raw chillies!)
