I think in isolation it was a harmless and weak thread, but I guess the key there is 'in isolation'. I tend not to join in on the wumming threads as I don't really enjoy it, but others do and that's all good. What irritates me though is when we've had multiple threads that clog up the board, or when a perfectly reasonable thread is spolit by people wumming. None of us would want to see these boards descend to the state old 606 was in toward the end. For the last year or so, it was just endless wumming and resulted, as we all saw, in people leaving.

If there's more to this behind the scenes, and I've no reason to doubt Dave or Thai's word, a line has to be drawn somewhere to stop the forum becoming unusable.

RBF - that's the very thing that has happened behind the scenes, with things being agreed and then reneged upon on quite a few occasions, ending with a stupid thread about a 'hate campaign'
    - they are impossible to deal with!

On the Bent thread, I made my suggestion; an official banter thread like Liv/Man U have and people post there knowing if they post elsewhere on other team's board they face strict modding.

Then I sincerely sympathise with both you and Thai, I think you´ll find you may have a few more of us behind your back if this sort of situation arises again.

I´ve seen that on the Liverpool board Mr. Marsupial and I think it´s a great idea, especially if it´s made clear that it´s there and only there, that wumming/insults will be tolerated.

It's in the pipeline with just one problem to overcome!

You can't have a cross-board thread as a sticky, so do you sticky it on our board only, or do you post it as a cross-board thread, and hope it stays active enough to remain near the top?

    Thoughts?

Could we post it as a standard cross board thread, and sticky instructions and a link to it in case it falls of the front page?

Why can´t both boards put up a Norwich/Ipswich banter thread, doesn´t have to be just the one that people reply to, does it. I´m sure those who relish in that sort of thing will soon find out where the action is.

That would work on our board, but it's in the lap of the Gods if their mods would do the same!

That would take both sets of mods working together as I've alluded to in reply to Exile's post!

If people want to use it though, they'd soon find the link, wouldn't they? Most of the cross board posters are pretty familiar with each others boards, so even if it was only a sticky here, I reckon it'd still be found.

How do Liverpool/Man U manage it I guess?

If it is sticky though best on ours because the Ipswich board just like Portman Road every 3PM Saturday is a ghost town! And the binners spend enough time on our board to utilise it too! Or you could have it sticky on one board and a sticky on the other linking to it?

Edit: Now I think about it, a banter thread needs a few ground rules; like only decent banter; No saying "9 - 2 on aggregate" or posting images of people with 6 fingers! We really need some sort of (Good natured) punishment for those who fall foul of this rule too!

Dear me, I think some people are taking this just a little bit too seriously, I mean come on for heaven's sake, listen to yourselves <doh>
It's a blinking football forum where fans can pop in and chew the fat or, heaven forbid, BANTER with other about football matters - not a bloody W.I. meeting!
For someone to react like this about that Bent thread that was just waiting to be created after he scored his brace yesterday is in my opinion just plain ridiculous and suggests to me that some people need to take a deep breath and chill the heck out.

I tell you, this forum isn't half the one the old 606 was and has become bit too much of a cliquey love-in that I frankly can't really be bothered with as much any more, that's why I'm on here about 5% of the time I was on the original. You probably remember me better as Tony Munky on there, forgive me for not properly introducing myself by now ;) I still enjoy the CPL and prediction stuff and a few decent discussions - and rbf's wonderful verse of course - but that's about it.

There was absolutely nothing remotely offensive about that post and has been stated it's exactly the kind of thing we would be perfectly entitled to post should Cody or any of our other ex-players bag a brace against them, so I think certain people need to get off their high-horse, put down the mouse, move back away from the computer, breath in some fresh air and enjoy the sunshine before they make themselves look even more silly. And as for all this "behind the scenes" malarkey - come on lads, it's a blinking football forum not a cabinet meeting! Let's just chill out and enjoy revelling in the fact we are currently sitting in the top ten of arguably the best league in the world - we should be happy, not fretting and worrying about what those nasty bigger boys down the road are saying about us.

Sticks and stones may break our bones but surely a bit of entirely harmless banter on an internet forum didn't ever hurt anyone did they?

ON THE BALL CITY AND NEVER MIND THE BANTER!!

Sid - do we need any more proof that either you didn't read the thread properly or you don't understand plain English <doh>

Nobody is disputing that the 'Bent' thread on it's own is a bit of very childish humour, but it's the thin end of the wedge! Do you know what that means?

Mate, if anybody has got that het up about anything that has appeared on this forum then they really need to chill out. If you can't handle banter between rival football fans then perhaps an internet forum where rival football fans congregate to banter perhaps isn't the best place to be sat with your finger on the refresh button for as many hours a day as some people clearly do <ok>

Blimey, I spend a few days away from this site and all hell breaks loose.

Message for Thai : I very much appreciate all the time and effort you have put into this site and the many side entertainments you are involved in. It is a real shame that a few idiots on both sides are spoiling your experience on this forum. Unfortunately you get them everywhere.

That said, the particular thread that raised the issue was one of the tamer ones and so I can kind of get what some are saying about over-reactions. I know it was the straw that broke the camel's back. It was the effect of many threads that finally built up to cause the reaction. Unfortunately some don't understand that.

And why is it "very childish humour" when it's about us but if it had been the other way round I'm sure we'd be quite happy with ourselves. Just a thought....
