We play Ben Arfa as a withdrawn striker, so he has to count. If he plays there's it's always with just one other forward. Hoillett would be class, I'd rather we pay a bit of money for him in January than lose out to a better side in the summer when they can poach him for nothing.

I think they're just saying that to try and deter suitors. Redknapp said something insane like Modric was worth a billion in the summer.
They won't hold out for 18m though, that'd just be idiotic. Clubs will test their resolve with some cheeky bids and then work towards a more reasonable figure. Unless they believe he's going to keep them up alone.
This, if he is all that is keeping them up they'll need to spend heavily in summer anyway. Better to sell in January for a fair price and pick up a couple of bargains to replace him and boost the squad.
Yeah I know, it is just a far cry from the situation in the summer. Agree though that we need to beef up our defence. Ideal January would be if we brought a striker, CB and LB and if Pardew can really woo Ashely perhaps another right footed RM.

We really need to get rid of Ranger even if we just terminate his contract, he has got no future at the club. Lovenkrands seems like a decent guy and a good squad member but if he wants first team football then fair enough. Would be gutted if Harper left .
