I have some sympathy with this. Tim's a lovely player and hugely talented, but I can't help thinking he's a bit of a luxury in our situation. I don't think he lacks commitment, though. It's just criminal to play him in a holding role.

Not sure if similar has been said but... Shodipo was probably our best player on the pitch, but people seemed to be complaining about him being there all the way to the final whistle. He sent in so many good crosses, took on players. Almost every attacking move went through him. And when Chair went off, after barely touching the ball for about 15 mins, fans around booed the decision and said Shodipo should be going off. I don't get it. Granted, on paper, I wouldn't have chosen Shodipo. But he put both Chair and Willock to shame in that game. I'd be using him as a sub in games if one of either Willock or Chair are not doing it.

I agree he did better than a lot of us thought he would. I don't agree that many of his crosses were "good" though. His end product was pretty erratic imo, but having said that, many an erratic cross has found a player when players have actually committed to getting into the box. Against Luton, we had Dykes in there and that's not likely to produce goals.
I can't comment on the specifics of this game as I've not even mustered up the courage to watch the highlights yet, but have been saying something very similar to a mate about Tim. He's great when he's great, but a real liability when he's not. I suppose that's always the danger of loaning a young player learning his trade, but that doesn't stop it being frustrating.
In a midfield 3 with Steff and Field, I think he's great. However, the further we sink down the table, the bigger liability he becomes imo. Immensely talented, but raw.
For me, two games is just a bit too soon to be getting onto Critchley's case. From what's been said, the formation and tactics were badly wrong on this, his third game in charge but I strongly doubt that he has had enough time to assess who our best players are and in what position they need to be playing. Everyone is entitled to make a mistake. Hopefully he has learned a lot about these players. I can fully understand how Luton went to pieces and spiralled down the table to relegation having been in the top 5 when one of their players suffered a catastrophic life-changing injury all those years ago. Losing a manager doesn't really compare and the decline in from since Wolves started sniffing around Beale is frankly baffling. They are supposed to be professionals. It is not Critchley's fault that his predecessor dropped us in it and gave him a real challenge to get us back into the play offs by the end of the season.
I wholeheartedly agree that it's way too early to be writing Critchley off. But I worry that the signs are a little, shall we say, unpromising. The fundamental requirement for most managers seems to be that they are confident, often with biggish egos, and inspirational when required. In contrast, Critchley is quiet and diffident. Plus, in his post-Luton interview, he had a rather bizarre take on a 3-0 home capitulation, to which his team selection and chosen formation made a large contribution. When I cast doubts on Critchley's bland personality in a previous thread, I was rightly told that the late, great Dave Sexton was also reserved and thoughtful. But at least when Dave spoke, you sat up and paid attention and there was real depth and credibility to his analysis. That, in itself, was inspirational. As I say, it's early days but we need to start seeing some evidence of Critchley's motivational powers and tactical nous. Sadly, such evidence as we currently have is that he is falling short on both counts. At least with Beale, rightly or wrongly, I felt confident that he would be a good manager for us, even during the bad times. With Critchley, I can't recall feeling so unenthusiastic about a new manager and I've been around Loftus Road since the 60's. He needs to start getting angry and he needs to start making some demonstrably good calls.
