Seriously, some of the stuff they did onstage was pervertedly medical….didn’t like reading about it delighted I never saw it
I'm watching 'When Motown came to Britain' on BBC2 (alright Uber?) and it strikes me that I've never really understood what Motown music is. I've liked many artists that were categorised as Motown, but if someone played me a track and said 'Motown or Notown'?, I couldn't differentiate.

Pretty sure thst Tamla Motown formed by Berry Gordy with all the famous stars is definitively Motown. So called because it was in Detroit , known as the Motor Town, thus shortened to Motown. Anything that was done by anyone else in the same style probably isn't Motown even if it sounds the same. I'm probably completely wrong , but it's the best I can think of ! Recorded the programme , and just watched it. Excellent
A notable example of this is Jackie Wilson, who although had several hits that were written by Berry Gordy, never joined the Motown set up !
Caught the end of this. I'm more of a Northern Soul man myself, a very different sound to Motown even if there is a crossover with some of the artists.
As for definition, I think that generally artists on the Tamla Motown label would come under the genre but it gets muddied a bit when they moved on to other labels.
Cheers Strolls. Just watched this, as a big fan of Motown, and great to see those historical moments of music with new, raw talent setting out. No doubt that the ‘65 tour, while financially a failure, was a key point in the history of growing Motown and that amazing collection of stars. It would have been amazing to have been there, no wonder that those that got to be there relish it. Great to see Dusty Springfield singing with Martha too - she had soul in her heart.
Something like that would never happen today, that’s for sure.

Some classics on there
I'm currently watching Michael Mann's Manhunter on BBC2 (alright Uber?), the first (I think) Hannibal Lecter film. I've seen it before, but I'd forgotten quite how awful it was. Bryan Cox is quite good as Lecter, but William Petersen as a kind of Miami Vice Will Graham is ludicrously miscast. ****e.
I checked out Mann's filmography to see if he'd made any good films and Heat stood out, but imagine how great that could have been with a better director.
Edit: I'd forgotten about In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, which elevates the conclusion. Still ****e overall, though.

I think I have seen the future…….The Meta Quest 2 !!!
Bought one of these for each of the twins for Christmas, not cheap at £399 each but after playing I honestly believe this kind of technology will ultimately shape our future. Thought it would be “gimmicky”, and on par with other VR head sets I have used and toyed with previously but this sets a high bar……lots of games to download (and spend money on) and really makes you think that you are in the stadium playing (baseball is pretty good). A shooting game transports you into a world of crooks and zombies and it feels like you really are holding the gun shooting away.
Just downloaded the Les Mills fitness app for not just myself, but to get the kids enjoying their fitness training and pleased to say they actually look forward to now doing something that they previously despised.
Not the finished article I’m sure but really think this kind of thing is gonna shape humanity…..hopefully for the better.
