Isn't that the point of playing it out to draw the press create space up field and if the press is drawn to get players into the spaces that have been created and get it to them. If the press is not drawn then it can in that case be easily played out.
It's a ridiculous tactic. It hurts no one but ourselves. As does leaving nobody up top and having eleven men in your own box when the opposition have a corner but they've had a man sent off. As does keeping three men back in defence when you have a corner against a team that have had a man sent off. And you're one down. At home.
I have to disagree, nothing wrong with playing out from the back. If you boot the ball upfield all the time, then 80% of the time you are giving away possession to the other side. It's all about when to do it. Blackpool obviously set out to press us high early on and had 3 or 4 players pressing our backline and goalkeeper. IMO, you then go long from the beginning, as firstly, they will be short of players upfield but also do that 2 or 3 times and they will then realise that it is not effective and will drop off then you start playing out from the back when it is safe to do so. It's all about making the right decisions.
It's not Rosie's tactic of playing out from the back that is resulting in fewer goals bring conceded, it's moving Greaves from centre back out of harm's way as he makes too many mistakes with poor positioning and poor heading ability - whether he's our number one left back is another matter though
I see your point. I would agree that those players stand out and can be put into that category. There are some that are potentially up there but we haven’t seen enough of them (Tetteh, Allahyar, Fleming). However, I believe we have a strong squad who are definitely good enough at this level and there are only a handful who are questionable. I don’t think there are many teams with depth as good as ours. We have just been very unlucky with injuries. I honestly think we will have a great second half to the season once Tetteh and Allahyar are back and fully fit. I just think we need to stop involving the GK in this ‘possession football’ or whatever it is called. We have already been caught out a few times and nearly been caught out a hell of a lot more. It is costing us vital points and if we don’t stop it soon, we will not get out of this relegation battle. I’d like to think we’ll see sense though.
I also agree with the 3 others you pick out; that's exactly how I would see them too ..... except they haven't been available, plus Rosenior seems to prefer playing a CB at LB (be that in place of Elder or Fleming, which is plain daft to my mind). Not arguing, but when you say ''only a handful who are questionable", that handful is near enough half of the team. I'd put the number a little higher than you perhaps. With Tetteh & Allahyar back, plus say 3 quality additions, plus at least reasonable luck with injuries, I too am sure we'll have a decent second half of the season. But we need those 3 things to happen, otherwise with the players we've got, we'll continue to struggle as the basic fact is we have too many players who simply aren't that good at this level and we also don't have a decent mix of pace, physicality, guile, etc.
The simple fact is Rosenior prefers Greaves at left back than our 2 specialist left backs. I think that speaks volumes.
Honestly now ,how good is Teteh, how good is Allahya? How much have we seen of them to pin our hopes on them? It's not a lot to go on is it if we're being honest. It's tin hats time and from what I've seen, we just don't have those kind of players like Ashbee or Dawson. I don't think we'll go down, but it will be bloody close.
No real defensive recruitment in the pre season could be the albertross around our neck come end of the season.
It’s amazing how some of our players become better when they are injured for a long period. I didn’t see anything in tetteh to suggest he’d get us out of this mess before he got injured. He spends 4 months with our physio and all of a sudden he’s the answer
I guess time will tell on this one. I think I saw enough in the games before they were injured to suggest they are what we need in terms of going forward. I think the lack of goals since without them highlights this too.
Allyhar over rated young and naive - he will learn , hopefully. Think Tetteh will do fine good control and football brain. Why when they had 10 did we bring all 11 back for a corner when they left two at half way !!!! A couple of weeks ago we put corners and free kicks to the back post and it looked useful as it does , but that’s dropped off again , we never retain playing initiatives or training ground moves
Tactical naivity I'm afraid from Rosie. Tbh I'm not convinced. If we persist with this tactic we're in big trouble.
