We will know a lot more about the owners commitment and plans for the future at the end of January. There was as we all recall some smoke and mirrors about club ownership that had to be cleared up. We should have an inkling as what the 'sustainable model' is, by our sales and purchases.
If the plan is to sell for £10 million and then use some of that money to buy 3 players who will be better why doesn’t the buying club go and get these 3 better players and save some money. The buying club will be a premiership club or Rangers so their scouting networks should be better than ours. If it’s so easy for us to do a Brentford (see earlier post on Brentford’s successful business) then surely every club could do it. I’m not looking forward to us selling any of our players as soon as they start playing well. Will we be losing Clarke, Cirkin, Pritchard, Neil, Patterson, Alese, Michut, Ba and others if they improve. If we sell Stewart for £10 million I doubt we will get any adequate replacement even if we spent the whole fee because of his all round game where he brings much more than his goals.
What is the end game then once we do get to the premier league ? The Brighton , Brentford model works but eventually it won't and it only takes one bad window of recruitment to go down . I know i'm thinking far down the line but will it be a case of they are more interested in making a profit on player sales then actually winning something in our life times ?
I've said similar so many times I'm boring myself. We are much more on the front foot when he plays due to his work rate and hassling the opposition. You won't get many strikers that will do the work he does over 90 minutes. I don't think we replace that!
Yeah that’s why i said “if that’s true”, I take everything with a massive pinch of salt on here…merely saying it would be **** if true.
Yeah I get that is the clubs new model but he is the one player who if we lost him it could massively jeopardise our league position…we have trundled along ok without him but the conversion rate is awful when he isn’t in the team.
If we keep recruiting young talent that know they will get first team football, I would imagine we would eventually end up buying players with massive potential. e.g if this had happened a few years back then Bellingham before he goes to Dortmund, Haaland before he goes to Red Bull Salzberg etc.
As much as it will be gutting to lose exciting players, the aim (like you say) is to replace them with even more exciting players. Then we can enjoy and encourage the new ones.
IF we get an offer that is to good to turn down then Stewart will be away, whilst he will be difficult to replace, we haven't done to bad with Simms and I'm sure we will have some options lined up. This will have been discussed with the board and plans will be in place for either outcome. As I've said before, it will only take Stewart to go and 2 or 3 bad results and the atmosphere will really turn, you can see it building on social media already. If Stewart does go, Speakman will cop all the blame, I still don't really understand why so many can't stand him
Imo Ross is class but ****ing hell lads we will be alright if he leaves. People going on like the club would fold if he leaves. just enjoy the ride and don’t stress over **** that you have zero control over.
Exactly, folk having a go at Speakman for no reason - just because someone has said Speakman wants to sell him. If he goes he goes, we are moving in the right direction thanks to Speakman
Wasn't there supposed to be a board meeting lately where this was to be discussed? Or did I imagine that? Quite possible.
I think its going to take a good few year and several transfer windows to really see what the people in charge are all about mate. We will wait and see. I'm sure Crystal Palace wanted to take it slow then were promoted "By accident" as Mr Holloway once famously said.
Been a long time since I mentioned him. Not saying it's an awful move I am just saying it's his call. Not worth people being over dramatic about it
