ah that fooled me... I was looking in ONB... which when you google it says Oxfordshire and North Bucks!
Thanks, ofh. Which six Watford players represented the club at the 1976 Evening Standard London Five-a-Side Tournament, who captained us, and who knocked us out?
Haven't a clue - but I remember reading in Australia a good few years later that Stan Bowles was rumoured to have taken a bung whilst playing for QPR in the final against Leyton Orient. He scored QPR's goal in their 1-5 defeat.
You don't want much, andy. I think that your namesake was there. Dennis Bond. Alan Garner. Kevin McCarthy. Not sure of these and the others, but will keep thinking. I think QPR knocked us out.
Wow. I have the final as a 6-1 defeat to Leyton Orient, but interesting about Bowles. What an exceptional player he was, though, eh?
Ooh, well done! Yes, Dennis Bond was the captain. The magnificent Andy Rankin was there, yes. Alan Garner and Kevin McCarthy also correct. We were knocked out by QPR as you say. I have to give this you because you're only two names down here. They are Jimmy Walsh, and, according to the programme, the great 'Bobby Downey'! Over to you, my friend.
That is just about it. He was the first Watford player ever to be sent off. It was on 10th December 1898 against Chesham in a southern league match. His record will stand for all time.
Thanks, yorkie. Which WFC player was described thus in a 1967 programme: “Watford’s longest-serving professional. A utility player, he was hitherto regarded at Watford’s best possible substitute, but an improvement in form in recent weeks has made him an automatic choice for the left-wing role.”
