Once Edwards left, we all said that this would now be the ultimate test that the system and structure in place is far greater than the individuals. Well, look that whole structure has completely been decimated now.

The structure is the individuals, as you've just highlighted.

It could be argued that the key to success is change. When one system has outlived it's usefulness, you put in another. You could change the word 'system' for individual and it still holds true. Klopp has shown that he likes working with the data so we can expect more data analysts to come in. We don't currently have the only people capable of doing the job; there are others out there.

we need to remember that while change is good, standards, processes and systems should not need to radically change due to individuals leaving.

Yes standards should be improved and evolved but.... one of said processes should be succession planning and should be routing in a large organisation like LFC. The fact is we lack the process as all FSG did was promoted from within and find suddenly ward wasn't the man for the job and have no alternative identified for the key technical director role.

we should be all over this to get the best PERSON in to do the job but build the systems and processes further.

I'd expect or demand LFC have a clear succession plan in mind for klopp, its no disrespect to the man, the legend, to have your plan in mind if he drops dead, chucks it or just loses it. It is hope for best and plan for worst stuff.

We don't know that there aren't alternatives already identified. It's fair to say that Ward sprung this on them but the club wil have, or should have, extensive knowledge of individuals in the roles that they are looking to fill. I mean extensive in terms of widespread, not the depth of knowledge of each individual.

(I looked up the new club doctor and he could have already been identified but took so long to announce because he only took up a new role a little over a year ago so could have had to serve notice.)

Depends what you class as success.

Doing what we've done over the last few years on the budget we have it's very successful. Finishing second on our budget is successful!

Winning trophies by outspending everyone else? I'd take our recent years over that every day off the week.

I think our recent years of success are an anomaly and even less likely to happen in the future. Chelsea City, Newcastle, all will be spending money with no aim at financial sensibility.

If United do get bought by the Saudi Consortium with Beckham as the nominal figure head, you can imagine how much more silly money they'll be spending.

Without dirty money there will be four mega rich silly spending clubs... And we could only hope for breaking into top four when one of them has a bad year.

One of two things is going to happen.

1) we will get bought out by some dirty blood money owners and have huge amounts of money spent on us.

2) we will get bought out by someone sensible and serious and start to win trophies as often as Spurs does now.

Neither scenario is very nice. I guess there is a third scenario... UEFA start enforcing FFP, but that's about as likely as RHC going a month sober because he's gone off alcohol.

... You can't have four or five mega rich owners buying glory for long. There's not enough glory to go around. Someone eventually is going to get tired of spending billions and not winning... Then there will be one less.

Longterm... Say after a decade... There's only enough glory for two or three mega rich clubs to make it worthwhile in England.

Maybe extend it outside of England into Europe and then fix the teams in there with a huge tv rights deal and prize money where you’re guaranteed to be in it no matter what. That way can have lots of rich owners in there who if they do **** one season, don’t make much diff to the income.

Do all that and call it something like the Super European League

I've been happy with FSG's ownership. If it wasn't for Citeh's highly shady funding, we probably would have had more titles than we have already won. We've really competed with them even so. I don't find the prospect of having owners being able to buy whoever they want whenever they want that attractive from a sporting point of view. I would rather win because we are better coached and better at developing players than our competitors.

I would prefer FSG to remain in control over any other option currently being floated.

Mito is looking for some unknown benefactor that happens to be a billionaire, but has a heart of gold and just happens to want the best for everyone. The reason he can't nane them is because they don't exist.

Either we are bought as an asset and milked or bought as a plaything. It is what it is.

It's also why I watch the local team more more than lfc now. I'm completely bored and pissed off with the lot of it.

At least with PSG, Qatar can win the French league each year. Abu Dhabi Doo can win the English league each year with City... Etc.

Imagine if you put them all in one league. One megalomaniac won't get his guaranteed silver each year. Someone will eventually get mad and storm off into the sunset with their money... Leaving the club behind to go bankrupt even if they are in a Super League.

You can have a lot of rich owners in one league... But you can't maintain too many sugar daddies for too long.

The boys football is going well, top of the table clash this weekend. Ran out 5-2 winners. It was intense.

in the end this is like discussing F1 and F2.

In THEORY F2 is the same cars exactly and you go race. (in practices there's all sorts round the fringes) so the best talent shines through.

In THEORY F1 is limited only by budget and you go develop what you like (in practice there's lots of cheating) so again money isn't the sole thing.

Football is utterly corrupted.

You would need a GLOBAL agreement on set maximum budgets to spend and a rigid holding to said budgets.

We all know the antics city are getting up to make up revenue, pay haaland out of back pockets etc etc etc etc.

Football cannot be fixed now. FFP is a total failure.

Its the equivalent of allowing athletics doping to the point some long jumpers can have wings and springs on their heels while others are weighted down by having lead arse

Been saying for many years that too much money is ruining football, but I usually get called a miserable, out-of-touch old fart. Just like any other time when I have the temerity to suggest some aspects of modern life just might not be all they're cracked up to be.

I don't think many would say you are wrong

I think what they would say is that ship has sailed along along time ago.
And I'm not sure the game is able to go backwards in that respect. It'll just keep pushing forwards until something really drastic happens.

Actually Football is probably a microcosm for the world in general and American capitalism across the world. Things will just keep going until it collapses in on itself.

There's no doubt that the big money has brought some of the best players in the world to our leagues and I think many people can't, or don't want to, see beyond that.
I agree that it's too late to reverse that now, short of the bubble bursting completely - but part of me wonders whether it would be such a bad thing to give the game back to the people it belongs to.
Of course I enjoy watching some the great players, but you can get just as involved following your local team, especially if you're not the star-struck type.
