People have been saying money is running football since the early nineties. Remember there being uproar when John Barnes got a £10,000 per week contract
There's no doubt that the big money has brought some of the best players in the world to our leagues and I think many people can't, or don't want to, see beyond that.
I agree that it's too late to reverse that now, short of the bubble bursting completely - but part of me wonders whether it would be such a bad thing to give the game back to the people it belongs to.
Of course I enjoy watching some the great players, but you can get just as involved following your local team, especially if you're not the star-struck type.
Been saying for many years that too much money is ruining football, but I usually get called a miserable, out-of-touch old fart. Just like any other time when I have the temerity to suggest some aspects of modern life just might not be all they're cracked up to be.
I'd rather we were ****e than be owned by the Saudis.
I completely agree.
you are a miserable out of touch old fart….and that there’s too much money in football…
seriously though, at what stage is the club you’ve supported, man and boy, not your club anymore…. I dread the day it comes….and I fear that it will be sooner rather than later.

It's definitely coming soon. Whether it be becoming a billionaire play thing or joining a super league, it's coming.
Ahem.
John Henry is a billionaire and the premier leavue is like a form.of super league in theory.
I’m fickle. I take joy out of seeing LFC win, therefore I don’t care about ownership.
bring on the arab money!

If it happened, I think the vast majority would forget their scruples when the big names start landing, so you wouldn’t be alone.
perhaps I’ll be the same - I think my problem is that the obscene amounts of money being thrown about doesn’t sit right with me when people are struggling to feed their kids…..and it’s only going to get worse. The sports washing thing is just another layer of disdain fir me…..
Maybe when we sign Mbappe, Rice, Bellingham, Mount amd a few other £100+ signings I’ll change my mind
mind you…..I would like to see Pep’s face if we went on a spree like that……could just be worth it![]()

Think PL money and then times it by 10. Then think of all the remaining leagues losing all of the TV money that’s being diverted into the new league. Then think about the closed shop, so nobody can win or lose league status - it’s the end of football as we’ve known it imo….and dozens of league clubs would collapse…in every country…not a good thing, surely?
whether you care or not is a personal position but I’d rather not support it, for whatever difference it makes!
As said above, I wouldn't stop supporting. I'd enjoy the nice signings and investments, no doubt- but I wouldn't be happy at the owner and the moral cost. I'd weep tears of joy out my left eye, and tears of despair out my right.

I'm placing my trust in the fans stopping the Saudis getting anywhere near us. Sure there are fans who don't care where the money comes from and are/would support a takeover by anybody with massive wealth. I've supported the team for a long time but I don't think I could actively cheer them on through any period of blood money ownership. The thing is, the next owners won't be the owners forever either. Maybe I will switch to Everton until it's safe to come back![]()

All I'm saying is it's a long time past since football was taken away from the ordinary local fan.
It's just degrees of separation at this point. Closed shops and stripping.money out.might not be all bad.
Oh 50% of clubs would fold maybe but only cos they are badly run. The money championship clubs even without the parachute have is actually eye opening. There'd still be a lower prem for sky to buy as well where.everton might even be midtable once the oil gouges rip the final prices of the big teams away to this super franchise league and then move the club to wherever it more suits
That's the reality. It's long a long time since villionaires grabbed football and sky money drove it out into the stratosphere where premium seats were worth more to clubs than kids on ga for a fiver or tenner.
