I don't need convincing that there are places in the world with more overt racism is part of the culture, but don't think we can dismiss a wrong here just because its more wrong elsewhere. Don't see the significance of Eastern Europe in relation to England players being racially abused in England by English 'fans'. .

Because they throw bananas. Were they thrown after the Euro Finals?

Gareth Southgate has know won more tournament games than any England manager. The useless, negative, clueless, dull twat that he is…

They were called out because they didn't perform, not because they're black.

Your suggestion that they should somehow be treat differently because of their skin colour is in fact racist.

In fairness if he was more adventurous we may be looking at a possible Euro and World Cup double.

The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.

It was definitely racist abuse, several people were successfully prosecuted for it.

'Some' may well have been, society has some people that are limited in how they express themselves, but the bulk was people expressing their views on players that didn't deliver. To protect some from criticism purely because of their skin colour, which is what happened, including made up narratives, is racist.

if alf ramsey hadn't subbed bobby charlton against west germany in 1970, we would have got further than we did. that doomed us to a dozen years of dreary dull unimaginative boring boring england. because of dreary dull unimaginative boring boring england managers when the effing f.a. failed several times to appoint clough.

That headline doesn't match the text, and was heavily criticised as inaccurate by many other reports that looked into it and found the bulk were foreign, and probably nothing to do with football or the UK.

There were still convictions and arrests.

Not saying the problem is as overt here as elsewhere, but it's still shameful.

It seems to have shifted from banana throwing a monkey noises, to some people abroad on twitter.

I'll leave you to it rather than risk being accused of defending racists, rather than looking at the actual facts.

I didn't say there were bananas and monkey chants - I don't remember seeing that reported (not for 30 odd years anyway) - just summised this was what the original post may be referring to.

And the several convictions weren't of foreigners. Maybe most instances amongst all social media as a whole were foreign, but that's not necessarily inconsistent with twitter saying most of their accounts suspended for racial abuse following euro 2020 were in fact UK based - as the article explains.
