Didn’t Charlton used to lay on coaches from Kent on match days, to fill The Valley (at the expense of emptying other club’s grounds)?
Yes mate, they once did a leaflet drop outside our ground advertising it, they soon got moved on lol. I think about a decade or more back, it was cheaper to travel to Charlton to watch a Championship game, then it was to watch my lot, they had various pick up points across Kent. When I was a kid, I can remember some people use to watch Gillingham at home, then go watch Maidstone when we played away.
Depending on where you lived in Kent, getting to Charlton was easier than getting to Gillingham, before they built the Medway tunnel. As a result it opened up a big catchment area right into the Medway Towns up to Charlton.
All the London clubs have significant fans in Kent, especially when you can be in London in 17 mins on the fast train. Personally I would say Wet Spam and the Spuds are the most supported in the area I live.
Whisper it quietly, but there are people even older than me (you’ll find some on the Saints board) who remember going to The Dell one week, and Fratton Park the next.
Looks like we're stuck with the Glazers. If clubs like CFC and Livpl are going for £4bn, no fcker's going to spend £20bn to buy us.
