I would like to think not Goldie, and genuinely, if you can point me to a policy of “open borders” being spoken of officially by the Labour Party, I’d be very interested.
I would suggest the only people who think open borders are a great idea are the Neo-Liberal middle class who need someone to make their coffee at Pret, look after their kids and to clean their toilet.
Interestingly, since our posts, Starmer came out with a statement yesterday that Labour is NOT in favour of open borders. Why did he feel the need to say that? Because most people thought Labour was in favour of no borders.
So Labour will have to come up with a persuasive policy on the illegal immigration crisis. As Raving says, they could wait (probably) 2 years until the next GE. Although they make look weak, given that the issue is likely to get a lot worse before then. For me, if they revived the New Labour plan, and proposed a digital identity card, that would demonstrate they are serious about the issue, and give clear blue water between them and the Tories.
Are you off work at the moment mate?Almost 24 hours Goldie and you’re still wriggling……still awaiting for your apology

You're the only person I know, Stainsey, who calls someone a liar and then asks him for help to prove it![]()
After just watching the ITV programme from last night about Qatar and it’s appalling abuse of human rights, subjugation of women, treatment of gay people and the states possible involvement in the murder of an innocent British subject….is there anyone on here who is,out of principle, intending not to have anything to do with watching or supporting the World Cup this year ? Or are we all just a bunch of hypocrites who put football first before anything else ?
I’m genuinely not at all fussed about it this time, possible due to it being at this time of year and can’t believe it’s so close to starting already without the usual excitement.
I don’t think it’s hypocritical to watch it. Not my fault where it’s being held.

Never anyones fault…especially not ours
I think it's disgraceful that it's being held there, but I will watch it. Too late to stop it.
Not mine but might be yours.
Does that not then mean you (and I’m not implying you personally) are in some way condoning the situation in Qatar ?
FIFA did that by awarding Qatar the tournament. If England and or other nations had decided to boycott it, I'd have been delighted, but it's happening so I don't see I'd be changing anything by not watching it.

All the teams should go out in rainbow kits, with loads of hugging, kissing and bum slapping when they score a goal - that'll get the Qatari authorities fizzing!
Can't imagine any antics like you got up to in France going ahead though pal...
