A stat that stands out for me is no goals from set-pieces, this season.

Usually these goals are what teams can and do score from. What is going on in training!

Where is Seb Larsson when you need him.

I mean we have 2 players above six foot in the starting line up. It's to be expected. It's also why we are so so vulnerable at the back when receiving set plays. We decided with the technical model, which I am not against, however a couple more physical lads would have been a benefit.

Just watched mowbrays post match. Saying exactly the same. Frustrated. Trying but no killer touch. Missing a component, need a striker and if we had one we would be scoring more and winning more games.

Mostly directed quotes that. Good to see that he understands the situation. He is trying to remain upbeat which is good.

Pissed off at that last night. Id like to blame the officiating but, in truth we brought about our own downfall. Too many heavy touches or misplaced passes. What frustrates me the most about modern football is the refusal or unwillingness to play to the whistle.

Yes, we should have had a penalty but what does Clarke think he’s achieving by sitting on the deck complaining whilst Blackburn were on the counter? If he’d got up, chased back then maybe our defence wouldn’t have been pulled out of position for their goal.

If Cirkin does his job and defends his zone instead of going touch tight and getting turned then we dont give away a free kick.

The lack of a striker is an obvious concern but im sick of hearing it.

Quality free kick or didn’t defend the near post well enough?

Blackburn scored a (offside) goal from a set piece.

Haven't seen any news on Alese overnight, hopefully nothing serious for him.

Still frustrated by the incompetent refereeing last night but can't wait for Saturday's game and the chance to put it behind us

Scan. Bad impact injury. If it's the top of his foot, which I think it is, it's probably bad news.

We not only miss our strikers up front but also when defending set pieces which RS was very good at.
We passed them to death last night with no end product which is frustrating.
Yes we make mistakes like Cirkin did last night but competent officials doing their jobs properly and we get a totally different result.
Can only remember Patto being helped out once when Luke headed out from under the bar but unfortunately their keeper didn't really have much more to do.
We move on but looks like the injuries are beginning to pile up, it's a long hard season.

Had another pressing engagement to deal with last night so never saw all of the game. Cirkin penna deffo. Set pieces both defending and taking we are sh*te.
Alese, bugger. Not good.
I recall we were bottom when RK took over. Fk all to worry about. Loads of time to put this right.

PS. One thing that really does p*ss me off with our club. Not leaving a man on the half way line at other clubs set pieces. Patto claimed the ball a few times last night and not a f*cking soul to pass it to. We have players who can catch pigeons for a living and no we bring them all back. Leave Patricks on the half way line ffs.

I have a couple of spares mate, couldn't make it tonight.

The lad who has them could meet you at the ground.
Cheers mate, top man. Missed the message, but typical Sunderland as I wandered to the ticket office a fella stopped me and said he had a spare. Wouldnt take any money, but he was happy with a pint.

Enjoyed last night. I dont get to matches as much ad I should, but every time I do our fans are class. Away days are special and it was a great atmosphere last night. Brilliant reaction when we went a goal down, which lifted the players.

Did not deserve to lose that game. Played some cracking stuff at times, pace and energy and trying to play forward. Havent seen penalty yet, but sounds like we were robbed by the ref (who I thought was absolutley useless all night). I enjoyed watchinf Evans and Neil working together. They just seem a good fit. Evans in particular is so good at organising and Baath at the back the same. I though Neil ran his bollocks off first half and tired second, got a bit sloppy. He played a pass in the first half for Clarke I think, first time, straight through their midfield and defence, had one bloke next to me rabbiting on about it until half time <laugh>. He wasnt happy when he was subbed but I thought he looked shattered and was starting to struggle to get back. I thought the subs were right overall at the time, but we seemed to lose a bit of structure to our game and I thought looked less likely to score afterwards. The melee at the corner seemed to take the wind from our sails a bit as well, probably just what Blackburn wanted, to disrupt our momentum.

Embo wasnt at his best I thought. I dont really see him and Pritch in the same side. Roberts was well marshalled by their left side as well, dont think he played badly just up against two very good players. Ba looked good when he came on and must be close to a start. I was disappointed a bit when he sort of gave up chasing back and chucked his arms in the air - hate seeing that, but he will learn I am sure. Diallo I am back to not being convinced by, another who seemed to give up on the chasing back at one point. You can see talent, I am just unsure where he fits in with us, or us with him, hope I am wrong. Stupid by Cirkin as well for their second. We cant afford to give them free kicks in that position. Neil did similar first half.

One last thing - Diaz is a class above. He looked a monster last night. No way is he a championship player, far far too good. And he seemed a decent bloke anarl which makes it worse.

All in all a cracking night, no rub of the green, but proud to be Sunderland.

Learning curve for the young lads though. We'll get better.
Feels like we're moving forward much more and quickly now after years of shìt.
Yeah the club feels better and the football is definitely on an upward trajectory, only concern is actual results. Lately we are doing enough to win games but seem, more often than not, to come away with less than our performance deserves.
Need to nip that habit in the bud. We have some excellent players who are showing brilliant flashes during games so I think we will turn that corner at some point soon. Although I said we looked like we had on Saturday, such a shame we are still talking about a ****e ref rather than the positives of another good performance.

I agree they did however set plays have been a big issue for us over the season. We are very prone to go to pot with them.

We've almost always seemed to have a smaller team than most others. It catches us out at obvious times.

But it was a clear penalty against Clarke, and the ref was eight yards away, with an un obstructed view. If he can't see that he needs a different job. Ditto the lino, whose only real task at a free kick close to the line is to look for offside.

We weren't great last night, but showed plenty of the right attitude and close enough on a few occasions. The lack of a centre forward showed again, which was bound to happen, though they are coping pretty well . But I doubt we'll be nicking games without Stewart in the team .

And, if Blackburn are top of the league, anyone can win that this year. Two good lads up front and solid, but not much apart from that IMO.
