I was there for my honeymoon in May this year. Didn't think to take a coat or out cos it's California isn't it, boiling surely. But Christ the freezing wind down near the piers was just a joke. Hull wind does my head in at times but this was something else. We could barely hear each other talk and it started to make me quite grumpy. I hate wind me.

Got the train from Santa Barbara to Salinas; nearest stop to Monterey. Goes right through the USAF site where Spacex is. Also, trains often have a panoramic carriage with seats facing the windows, and you can get a free guide to tell a few tall tails. Train goes very slowly at times in some amazing scenery. We had pelicans flying alongside for a while too. Memorably made up for me accidentally forgetting my driving licence as we set off on holiday...

Did the same thing myself left my driving licence at home Found out as i was landing in Denver On atrip through Dakota .Wyoming (stunning) conned the young lad with a e mail copy from my son back home at car rental Thing is i got stopped by police outside of jackson hole for speeding "could i see your licence sir" Got away with a bollocking it was to much of a job them sorting it out

i was pulled over in Las Vegas for jumping a red light on the way to the airport. Copper was not pleased. Ironically it was the same copper who attended the accident on the strip when my mate veered into a lane and took out a local.....Thankfully, the highway patrol man didn't recognise us......That was 1986..Never been back....Happy daze.

PS...Back to NYC in May for 7th visit. Trust City to get to play off final!!!
