Their fans complain about exactly the same things as ours do, too much local coverage given over to rugby, regularly being referred to as a rugby town etc.
If you read the history of Wigan Athletic, the RL club and its supporters tried to block the football club's application to the Football League. The animosity goes back a long way, but it isn't too dissimilar to FC's early opposition to the formation of Hull City when they evicted us off the old boulevard when we started getting higher gates then them. In that aspect, Wigan and Hull have more in common then it seems.

I've got most editions of the long discontinued and excellent Aerofilms Guide Football Grounds, and it's amazing how grounds changed over just a few years. Springfield Park had only 1272 seats, immense though compared to Northampton Town's County Ground's 360! :emoticon-0100-smile

When they were deciding on where to award games for the World Cup in 1966 only Hillsborough and Goodison Park had more seats than Boothferry Park. Though they were in the process of installing more in Old Trafford. We lost out b one vote to Hillsborough. Wednesday’s chairman being a top figure on the FA will have played no part in swinging it I am sure.
Roker Park and Ayresome Park had to install temporary seating to meetFIFA requirements.

They also complain that any trouble at rugby games is swept under the carpet.

I’ve gone for a Wigan win, but I just fancy Dawson to get to the 50% win rate with us!
Actually he’ll probably be sacked in the morning, & new guy brought in with 5 hours to work on the team before kick off.

Sid James Park was on the list, but Newcastle City Corp. kicked it into touch due to some 'so called' safety concerns. Hard to believe. Therefore smoggies got some games.

weirdness afoot in the chip this evening. 4 games approaching halftime, 2 more just after the half-hour.

5 games so far goalless

1 game is 3-2

I've really no idea what tonight will bring result wise, I hope we try to be on the front foot and take the game to Wigan. As I have to get up in the middle of the night I hope it is worth it, as I get terribly grumpy if we lose and have a lack of sleep to boot.

P.S. Please don't let Keane or Magennis score.
