At the time Willo was in better form. We were fighting to stay up and we didn't have the time to wait for Saylor to get up to speed, after then he got his run and goals and looked comfortable again.

I like Williamson but Taylor is so much more skillfull. Willo is quite strong but he's a little too no-nonsense, hardly ever plays the ball out of defence tends to hoof it. Fair enough when we had Carroll but we've actually got good attacking players now who need it passed to feet.

Not saying Taylor is amazing at it but I think he's better at it enough to warrant starting.

Was always Taylor for me. To be fair to everyone picking Willo though, it was closer at the time. Taylor was struggling to find form and fitness because of injury. And Willo was actually playing quite well. It mainly comes down to athleticism for me. Taylor has always been very well equipped (ooh er) to deal with the physical challenge our league presents. Both are good readers of the game and both have their lapses. Taylor is still improving as hes only 25 which is youngish in centre half terms generally.

  10. Better form yes, i completely agree. Willo was a lot more focused and settled, but Saylor has always been the better defender, in terms of ability. Saylor just needed to get settled back into the team after his injuries.

Taylor any day of the week, look at how good our defense has been with him in it!

Taylor is better, but Williamson was better when we made this article. And for all people used the phrase "when Taylor is fit and on form...", what about when Williamson is as well? Very underrated player.

Fact is that Taylor, like Bramble before him (though not to the same extent thankfully!), plays better with a composed partner alongside to lead the line. For all the 'Taylors a leader' shoutiness, its clear that Coloccini leads the line and even MOTD replays have shown that this season as he pushes the backline out to clear the area. Thanks to this Taylors been able to concentrate on his own game rather than worrying about what his partners doing, and even gives him license to get forward on occasion. Don't forget that despite his still very young age he's had to be senior pro at the back for a long time due to a revolving door of Brambles, Moores, Robbie Elliott for a spell, Rozehnal, Ramage, Gooch etc etc which can't be easy. Finally he's got a settled top partner and the partnership is superb.

Williamson isn't half as bad as the November comments are saying though, he's no nonsense for certain (to the extent that he looks ****ing terrified with the ball at his feet) but he's not bad at it. Weak? Bollocks. Able backup at the position we're at now (in general, not 3rd in the league!), but if we want to be a team challenging for Europe we need better in January.

Quite right, agree with all of this.

Colo is far, far better than people give him credit for, that's why our defence looks good with Colo and Williamson/Colo and Taylor, but not Williamson and Taylor (see Villa last season and Leeds pre season). His reading of the game is fantastic and he raises his partner's game.

Colo's our best centre half since Woodgate, and as a 28 year old the only players I can remember watching who come close to that standard are Taylor and Albert.

When you look at when this was made, that answers why Willo was the clear favourite. We didn't needed form and he had it at the time <ok>

Williamson, I've noticed a few times saylor standing a yard behind the rest of the defence, playing the opposition on side, in the hope of making a block or sliding tackle which on first view make him look as if he's doing a really good job.

It is a t ough call though as tayor seems to be better in the air, stronger and slightly more comfortable on the ball than Williamson.

As mentioned above I think Williamson and colo work better together than tayor but it cant be too bad if they've only conceded 7 goals or whatever!
